I cannot say how much respect and appreciation I have for John of ABC’s of Dog Training. Over the past few years, he has trained 4 of my adopted dogs of varying ages and behavioral issues. He had trained anther 4 of my family dogs over 20 years. We primarily have Doberman Pinchers. There is a perceived risk factor in adopting dogs, let alone Dobermans, of not knowing what they were exposed to or the bad habits they had acquired. For a busy person like me, that has little patience, time or background with training animals, I most likely wouldn’t be able to confidently take in these dogs, had I not had John in my contacts list. The process with him hasn’t changed in 20+ years because he’s a seasoned professional that, as far as I can tell, is the best at what he does. Something you’ll have to see with your own eyes is the way dogs connect with him from the first moment. This simply blows my mind every time! I could not get my newest overly rambunctious, fear based Dobe girl on a leash without her pulling and snarling at anything that went by us. I was truly concerned about her behavior. Within the first 2 minutes of her interaction with John, he had her healing properly at his side, sans snarls. I nearly fell over. There was nothing I could attribute this to other than his honest intent and know how. The dogs know that he is in control. You can see how they want to learn from him and crave his praise. It’s as if he speaks their language and the rest of us have to learn. He doesn’t ever get impatient or frustrated. He demonstrates respect and utter love for animals. And they reciprocate. But they are with him to learn and learn they will. I can understand that some may be new to animal training and are uncomfortable with the idea of dominance. It’s not being mean, or yelling, or asserting yourself in an aggressive manner. It’s being the leader of the pack, which puts a dog at ease. There is nothing cruel involved with properly training a dog. Performing quick, purposeful corrections on a dog, saves them from a lifetime of having their necks yanked by a leash or other disciplinary actions that benefit no dog or owner. John’s shown me that it doesn’t matter where a dog comes from or why they do things. All that matters are the commands, the corrections, and the praise. It’s really that simple to get a well behaved, working dog. You almost vicariously gain a life lesson throughout the process of seeing him work with our dog, while teaching you the tools to become the trainer and approach your readily willing and able dog. The dogs get dropped off to him, where he will go over expectations. He guarantees what he will achieve and does not accept payment until pickup, 2 weeks later, where he can show you your trained dog. And at that time, like clockwork, my dogs were all trained beyond expectations set forth by even him. The only catch, for the lazy ones, is that this is not where it ends. Dogs need consistent training and upkeep, like everything else. And you will hear this mentioned many times from John, “You need to come back for quick free lessons.” This is the most important part of the process and pays off exponentially. There is one payment for the initial training, and he happily gives LIFELONG FREE lessons. He does this because he cares for the work he does. I personally find It difficult to get over there often, but I truly have seen the difference It makes for my dogs and for me. The initial training proves what the dog can do. The 10 minute daily walk lessons and follow ups at John’s are the keys to perfecting it. They have the tools and it’s my job to keep them in good condition. I personally believe that anyone who does not properly train a dog, is an irresponsible dog owner, just waiting for a problem to occur. Its understandable to feel that you can do It on your own and maybe you can. I can diagnose and remedy a list of ailments with the help of the internet. But I’d rather see a trained medical professional. And in the case of dog training, John is the top Doc.

John came highly recommended to us from a friend. We were at our wits end with our two large lab mix dogs. We could not control them when walking on a leash - or anything else for that matter. After training, we came home with two exceptionally behaved dogs who are now a complete joy. We followed up with lessons with John so that we could learn how to be good dog parents, it made all the difference! We have recommended John several times, and will continue to do so.

I signed my dog up for obedience training. I spent a good hour with the trainer to see the house and grounds and discuss the reason I wanted training for my dog and me. Communication is so important. Specifically, my dog loves to bark at other dogs and barks with a high pitch. She can work herself into a frenzy when she sees other dogs. Other than picking her up, I can’t get her to stop barking. I believe this obedience training will improve our communication. After two weeks with John my dog knew all her commands, even "did her business" on cue. She has been around other dogs during this period of time and has become socialized. She is happy around the other dogs, no frenzied behavior! I liked John's training so much that when I got my second dog, a 5 month old pup, I asked John if she was old enough for training. Yes! She, too, can now do all the commands and "her business" on cue. John is truly the dog whisperer! My dogs are happy. They enjoy going for walks and going through the commands. They walk in sync with each other and sit at pretty much the same time, and follow the commands. I can't say enough for John's training. It's important for the owners to get trained, too, so that they are in sync with their pets. I've gone back several times with my first dog to ask questions and walk through her training. I also like the fact that John has boarding. My dogs like him and I trust him to care for them while I'm gone (and I know he reenforces their training:).
