Taffy (my seven-year-old hound mix) and I recently completed the Good Dog Program with Laura Pezzulo, owner of Absolute Angel Dog Training, and we couldn’t be happier with our results. Taffy had very selective hearing, and often didn’t listen to me. After training with Laura and learning Good Dog skills, Taffy now not only pays attention, but quickly - and happily - does what I ask. Laura provided relevant, informative handouts and videos before each of our training sessions, as well as an overview after each session summing up what Taffy and I had learned and reminding me about the things we needed to work on. She also encouraged me to contact her between sessions with any questions. Laura knows a great deal about canine behavior, and her approach to working with dogs and their people is very positive AND effective. I chose to have Laura help us with our dog Kya because we were desperate to help her feel better and know that positive reinforcement training is the way to go for any dog reactivity rather than punishment based training. When I talked with her on the phone, she really cared about my dog's well-being and mental state as well as mine! Those things are what won us over for sure! As for how my dog was before and after: Kya is a shepherd mix puppy who wasn't properly socialized as a young puppy, so she exhibited fear of people, especially when they approached head on or startled her. She would bark at people in the hallway of our apartment complex as well as in the parking lot whenever we would take her outside. It was difficult to live with because it would wake people up if she barked at early or late hours, and it would scare other people who don't like large dogs that bark. But Kya was the most scared, and I hated seeing her so nervous whenever we left the apartment. If we hadn't done this program, we would still be dealing with this and Kya would still be suffering emotionally. Since completing the program, we can walk Kya down the hallway and she won't be scared of people! She is excited to greet strangers and doesn't mind existing in the same space as other humans! We can have actual guests over to our place because she will become friends with them now! I would say we have the opposite problem now, where she is starting to love greeting people too much, but it is not a bad problem to have as it will be easy for us to train some neutrality! I'm just so thankful she is not fearful anymore. This is not a miracle fix; it takes lots of hard work and your dog may take longer than Kya did. But it will happen over time, you'll start to see your once terrified dog becoming interested in meeting people and forming friendships with people outside of their family. I also found myself becoming more confident in handling my dog and communicating with her better! I feel like we understand each other better and have a closer bond than before. If your dog struggles with fear based or excitement based (or even aggression based) reactivity I would recommend Laura over any other trainers in the area! She truly cares about you and your dog's mental state. Please let Laura help your dog overcome their reactivity, it's what is best for them!

I can’t say enough good things about Laura and her program! When I first brought home my puppy I felt completely overwhelmed. He wouldn’t pee outside, was extremely hyper, biting my older dog, and not understanding the word “no.” Today, I have a happy, well mannered pup who has very few accidents, will listen to commands, and is very attentive. Everywhere we go people ask me how I got him to behave so well. I’m a lot more confident as an owner and have all of the tools I need to train him further. I tell people every time I go out that Laura is a miracle worker! As someone on a budget, I thought I couldn’t afford the price. But it was worth every penny and more. I’m even planning on hiring her to work with my other dog! If you enroll in this program, you won’t regret it!

We really loved working with Laura to get our puppy, Doc, trained up with the little devil program from necessities like potty training, crate training, and socializing to the basic commands he needs to know, this covered it all and set us up for success to continue the training into the future. It had been some time since our last dog so we were looking for a trainer to help with getting Doc(and us) up to speed and Laura is extremely knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. We loved that it was one on one sessions and that they could be done in our own home. This gave us everything we were looking for, some things we weren't, and I have to say if we had been left to our own devices Doc would not be half as far ahead as he is now.
