We brought our two pitbulls, Skye and Annie, to Akela K9 Services after months of struggling with increasingly serious behavioral issues. Despite being raised together since puppyhood, they had started fighting to the point where we couldn’t trust them to be in the same room unsupervised. On top of that, we were dealing with house soiling issues and constant leash pulling that made walks more stressful than enjoyable. From the very beginning, the team at Akela made us feel supported and hopeful. Michael Grahm (Head Trainer), our trainer, was absolutely phenomenal. He took the time to understand the unique personalities and triggers of both dogs and kept us in the loop with frequent updates, photos, and videos throughout the entire 4-week board and train program. Anytime we had a question or concern, Michael was quick to respond with detailed, thoughtful answers that really put us at ease. The transformation in both dogs has been nothing short of amazing. Skye and Annie are now able to coexist peacefully and even play together safely, which we honestly thought might never be possible again. They are now fully house trained, and walks have become a joy — they walk calmly on leash and respond beautifully to commands. A huge shout-out also goes to Tara, who was exceptional with communication and scheduling. She kept everything organized and made sure we always knew what to expect. The entire team at Akela was kind, professional, and clearly passionate about helping dogs and their owners succeed. We are so impressed and grateful for the work Akela did that we now feel 100% confident using their boarding services in the future — something we never would have considered before given our dogs’ past behavior. I can’t say enough good things about Scott at Akela K9 Services. His decoy work is seriously impressive—he’s skilled, super smart about what he does, and explains things in a way that really helped me understand how to work toward my goals with my dog. What stands out most is his attitude. He’s friendly, patient, and clearly loves what he does. Training with him has been such a positive experience, and I’ve learned a ton in the few sessions I've had.
