Alyeska Canine Trainers

This is not the kind of place I would EVER bring a dog to and expect to get any legitimate training. Classes are taught by volunteers with no dog training credentials. There is no system in place to build on (such as marker training, etc). It's a borderline scam for this place to be operating as a "dog trainer" because the people teaching classes are just random dog owners, not trainers with any sort of education or credentials. Sadly, both major dog training places in Anchorage have the same issues and they are both terrible. No wonder there are badly behaved dogs all over this town.

It's been a few years since I brought my two Dobermans to Alyeska Canine Trainers, but I LOVED that place. I'm thinking of getting a puppy and I will most certainly be signing up for classes there.What I really liked was that I was the handler and participated in the training. So at the same time as my dogs were learning, I was learning, too! We went through Beginning Puppy, Advanced Puppy, Puppy Agility, Beginning Obedience, Advanced Obedience and Adult Agility! Loved it!

This is a volunteer organization, so all the instructors are volunteers. They are part of a club that requires them to volunteer as part of their membership. Monies from classes pretty much pays for the facility that they use and the upkeep for that. Most of these folks have been involved with dogs for years. With that said it really depends on who you get as a trainer. There are some really great trainers like Lisa and Teresa and several others. And there are some really awful ones (not going to name them). Best advice is take what works for you and disregard the rest. If you don't like a trainer, then switch to a different class. You can usually switch to a different class within the first week or so.
