American Canine Academy Dog Training

I am seriously so grateful for ACA. We brought our 4.5 year old german shorthaired pointer in for the 2 week off leash freedom board and train and they wildly exceeded our expectations. Aspen would bark and cause constant chaos in our home and the change in her behavior is almost unbelievable. I could question if she’s the same dog or not. Actual miracle workers and I could not recommend them more. The program is so worth it and incredibly affordable for the level of care, communication, resources, and access to free follow up trainings for life. If you’re looking for a trainer, RUN to ACA. You will not regret it!!!

We came to American Canine Academy after about 9 months of training at Sit Means Sit (a month of private lessons plus weekly group classes...we only missed one). While we had a generally obedient dog, we were still struggling with behavioral issues, especially aggression toward friends coming into our home, and out on walks. It was stressful and honestly we felt stuck. After just three private lessons here, the difference in approach has been huge. The guidance is incredibly personalized to our specific situation. Not cookie cutter at all. They clearly understand how to work through behavioral challenges like this, and just as importantly, they’ve helped train us on what we were doing wrong. For example, we learned that the way we were introducing our dog to guests was actually making things worse by forcing interactions. One thing I really love is their mock home environment. This is our biggest struggle area and it’s been so helpful to practice real-life scenarios in a controlled way. We’ve worked with Melanie and Jackie, and both are fantastic. They’re extremely knowledgeable, kind, and never judgmental. Every time I leave a session, I feel more confident and equipped to handle situations at home. We’re planning to board our dog with them for a weekend in May and will update this review after that and after trying group classes, but so far, we are really happy with our experience. *~*~*~* June 2026 Update*~*~*~* I seriously don't have enough good things to say about ACA. I was scared when we first came to ACA that I would have to give my dog up, because he was so hard to control at home when people came over. Ruedi has officially "graduated" his private training and it's like I have a new dog. I have had two friends come over without ever meeting him before and because of ACA I had the tools to navigate that safely for everyone. He didn't show aggression and was kind of resigned in his place (no dog trainer can change their entire personality, my dude just loves us and kind of tolerates others), but that is infinitely better than having an unsafe situation for my loved ones. He was able to calm and self regulate himself enough for me to feel comfortable doing an introduction with the guests and it went extremely well. On the boarding front... we boarded him just one other time at a different facility when he was a puppy and it went so badly. So I was a little nervous about boarding him. I shouldn't have been. They know dogs here and they know this dog. I opted to do extra training which is a benefit of boarding here that I love. So he came back to us understanding the command 'heel' (the other training place used a different word) and they really tightened him up with all his other commands. He came back having a bath which is a lovely thing. But the thing I loved most about picking him up was how comfortable he was in the environment. When I picked him up from the other place, he seemed terrified and desperate to leave. When I picked him up at ACA, he was excited to see me but also chill to wait in the lobby while I checked out. We've done an off leash and an on leash group class and can't say enough positive things about the ongoing training. The classes are fun. The trainers are just genuinely wonderful people. And I love that they move class around to different parks in the Denver area to switch it up. If you're comparing different trainers, you don't need to look any further. ACA is the only place I will have a dog trained or boarded.

We adopted Sadie, a rescue dog. We were in need of obedience training for Sadie. We contacted American Canine Academy and set up, an in-person, meeting. We met with Jackie (American Canine Academy trainer). My wife and I were so impressed with Jackie and the training process that we immediately signed up for training. Our meeting with Jackie and her ability communicate with us and Sadie, she deserves many kudos. JACKIE IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE YOUNG LADY. I would recommend, from our initial meeting, American Canine Academy to my friends.

My husband and I dropped Morrigan off for the 2 week board and train after she turned 16 weeks old. Right when we brought her home she really impressed us! I have brought her into my office with me a couple times and she has no problem staying on her place, even with other dogs and people up and about. Everyone we’ve talked to is so shocked she’s so well behaved at only 4 months old. We really appreciate the constant support from ACA and the private follow up classes. Jackie has been so helpful every time we see her, answering every question, and walking us through different scenarios. The lifetime support for Morrigan is also so incredible. We really feel supported for every stage of life our little pup will go through. We recommend ACA to everyone that has a dog, we will be customers for life!
