Ann Braue's Canine Training

Location is terrible! My dog was scared of the rusty gated metal stairs. She was scared to go up or down as the noise would echo! Others in my class had problems getting there dogs up the stairs as well! The dogs were scared and some had to be carried up! That’s not how you want to start a training class when your dog already has anxiety like my dog. Once we finally made it up the stairs we had to wait in the hall while young girls from another room ran up and down the hall causing many dogs more anxiety and reactive behaviors. I think it was a dance class or something, but not sure. I also feel that could be dangerous if your dog doesn’t do well with kids. My dog was also struggling with reactivity (not aggression) and newly adjusting to her fur-ever home. We were told it would be a good idea to join an obedience training class for many reasons so we did, but quickly regretted this choice regardless of this class being highly recommended to us with great overall reviews. The 2nd class I attended was the worst. I did not go back after! My dog would not stop making noise and reacting to the other dogs. She didn’t want to listen and was showing signs of high anxiety. The trainer kept saying out loud to the class that she was excited. This was not the case. My dog was unable to follow along and participate and at one point she had me stepping on my dogs leash and shortening the leash until her face was almost pinned to the ground while she continued to teach. It was so stressful! I feel that the trainer handled this situation poorly. I wish I would have thought to just walk out, but eyes were all on me and I froze. When I confronted the trainer that I wasn’t sure this was working out she just dismissed all my concerns and basically said not to give up. My dog was so stressed she was spitting out cheese and hot dogs which were her high reward treats! I would not recommend this class if you have a dog with anxiety! My vet agreed that this didn’t sound like a good fit. Proceed with caution! You will not get your money back if it’s not a good fit for your dog! I tried and I was ignored! There was also poor communication from trainer during this entire time and poor response time to my emails, phone calls, text, and after letting her know this class was not a good fit and I asked if I could be refunded any of the money I had paid she stopped responding all together. I feel it was very disrespectful and unprofessional especially when I paid for a service that did not work for us.

After doing a bunch of reviews, I thought this place was going to be perfect. I reached out to them and they were very kind and friendly. When I got there, it was a different story. It's in the banbury place on the top floor. None of the elevators went up there. So you need to walk up these rusty grated, metal stairs with holes in them. None of which I was told beforehand. My dog did not want to walk up the stairs. He was so scared. He walks up normal stairs just fine. The first day there was a group of us, with our dogs trying to get them up. Meanwhile it's right next to a dance studio. So all these tiny dancers, would stop and try and pet my dog, and as soon as I would get him up one step, all these dancers would come up and distract them. Which none of this is the training schools fault. Just a terrible location. I would get him up 3 steps, just for the dancers to come walking down, and he would follow them. The first time I tried to get him up the stairs, the trainer's young helper, came to the stairs after a 1/2 hour and helped all of us on the stairs and tried to coax the dogs up with a hotdog. She ultimately ended up helping me carry him. He is 65 pounds golden retriever, way to much for me to carry on his own, and the way the stairs were, I didn't trust carrying him on my own. The helper was kind and helpful. The next time she wasn't there to assist. After struggling to get him up the stairs. I walk in and the main trainer yelled at me in front of the group for being late. I explained that I was there on time, however I struggled getting him up the stairs. After that I felt like the next few sessions, we had a target on us from the trainer. She would scold me infront of group. She would take my dog's leash, and point out how wrong he did things, infront of the group. It was like she was trying to make an example out of us. I hate attention. Let alone negative attention. Overall with the stairs, and how the main trainer treated us. I didn't finish my sessions package I paid for and will not be back.
