Bill or Krista will come to your home for a one-hour session tailored to your dogs immediate needs and your familys goals.

This monthly program gives GOAT Camp graduates the opportunity to refine social skills, maintain training, and practice real-world application of learned behaviorsall in a supportive, guided environment.
Led by Bill, each hour-long walk takes place in local parks and focuses on reinforcing handler engagement, calm leadership, neutrality, and precise leash communication amidst the natural distractions of other dogs, people, and the environment.

Our 4-1/2 yr old dog, Cale, is a mixed breed Shepherd/Pit Bull Terrier rescue dog that my wife and I adopted when he was 4 months old. Cale was extremely reactive and aggressive toward people, and we have had multiple incidents of displayed aggression over the past few years. We did not know how to handle him during these encounters with humans. After working with multiple trainers over many weeks and months, Cale’s behavior continued to the point where we did not know if we could continue to live with him. We were desperate for answers, thought we were without options, and seriously contemplated putting him down. As a last resort, we were referred by several people to Bill Ballestos at Balanced Behavior Dog Training Center in Palatine.
Bill worked with Cale for a series of training sessions over a period of a few weeks, and each session also included an hour of training with my wife and I, Cale’s owners. Bill’s approach is different than any previous training we have had. It is based on a behavioral model where correcting the dog’s bad behavior/decisions and rewarding his good decisions are the goal. Bill has taken special care and much of his time to communicate his training methods to US and to make sure that we understand what is expected of US to ensure continued success with mastering his methods. The results to date have been measurable and definitive. Our dog is no longer pulling on walks, is now looking to us for guidance, and his barking and unruly behaviors are much more manageable than prior to his training.
There is a mutual respect and trust that is being built between us and Cale, and we are no longer considering putting him down. None of this could have happened without Bill’s guidance and sensitive handling of Cale. We are truly blessed to have found him. We are extremely grateful to Bill and his staff for giving us the confidence we needed to communicate effectively with our dog.

Speechless! We are so grateful to have found Balanced Behavior! We had seen multiple trainers without seeing progress in our reactive puppy. As soon as we met with Bill for our consultation we immediately knew he was going to be exactly what we had been looking for. He not only helped us understand why our puppy was behaving the way he was, but also showed us what we, as his owners, were doing wrong. As first time dog parents, learning we played a bigger role than we thought, was a huge wake up call! He has helped us immensely to enjoy our high energetic pup! Bill and Krista were both exactly what we were looking for in a trainer. Krista has also been nothing but amazing in helping train our puppy and set him up for success! Thank you Bill and Krista for not only helping Oakley learn but also for teaching us so much! Right after Oakley finished training, we were so confident, we took our first vacation with Oakley. I cannot recommend Balanced Behavior enough. Archer is a large German Shepherd who is so friendly and obedient, but nobody ever got to see it. I couldn’t take him anywhere since he was a maniac in the car. He was also very dog reactive in our neighborhood and was redirecting onto me or his leash. Taking a walk was a real chore especially since he also pulled like a freight train. Our original trainer helped with Archer’s obedience, but could not help with his reactivity. They made the situation worse so at one point I was having to muzzle him because he was biting me when he saw another dog. Thanks to Bill and Krista we have resolved 95% of these issues. They really helped to understand why he was acting the way he was and gave real tools to help. Archer has made so much progress and is a joy to walk now. He is also calmer and I have been alike to take him several places in the car. So if you are struggling with your dog this is the place to come for help.
