I'm coming up on my third week of the S.T.A.R Puppy Class and these people are a God send. A young rambunctious 3 month old puppy recently came into my care and as a young person it was extremely important to me that I do things right as this is my first dog that is mine as an adult after recently losing my 14 year old dog who I had since childhood. I want to offer him enrichment and travel with him but make sure hes safe for the public and also his own wellbeing. He's easily overwhelmed, vocal, mouthy, and hyperactive as many puppies are. Going into our first class was.... humbling. He yipped and barked and caused a commotion and immediately a trainer made her way over to us and treated us with the most patient soft-spoken compassion. These are folks that truly respect that dogs will be dogs and that learning their language is important. By the second week they prepared a space in the class for specifically me and my puppy in advance so he would be comfortable during training and wouldn't overwhelm the other pups and we're slowly opening the gates as he acclimates. All of the homework and training techniques have shown me exponential growth and positive change in my puppy. My take is this, if you have the time, patience, and really care about doing the work these folks offer an amazing program. I also love that part of the classes involves learning about your dogs breed and behavior. Seeing people take an active interest in their animals makes me feel so safe in each class because at the end of the day it's just good honest people with a common goal to give their dog's a good life. I have no doubt that my little rascal may have to retake his course. But I also have no doubt that the trainers here will continue to be kind and understanding every step of the way. You can tell these are people who are genuinely passionate about their work and want to see animals thrive and succeed.
