Birch Valley K9

I cannot say enough great things about Tommy, Allie, and the Birch Valley crew!! We came to them off of a recommendation from a friend who brought her dog there for board and train. She told us it was worth every penny and she would do it all over again if she had the choice. We have a very big, energetic 3yo berner who thought rules didn’t apply to him no matter how hard we tried and he truly didn’t realize his size. The minute we arrived to have an introduction and understand the process, our dog was all over the place with excitement and Allie, who had never met him before, immediately got his attention and found a way to make him focus and listen. From that point on we were sold. Throughout the few weeks of board and train, we received training updates and videos and came to visit so we could see the progress and be taught ourselves. The key thing to take away was never stop training. We’ve been home with our newly trained and very well listening pup for a few months now and continue to utilize everything Allie and Tommy taught us. It is truly night and day with how we experience walks, people in the home, feeding time, and any other fun activity that we’d usually have concern about with our dog being a little “too much” or not listening. The best part is, he is still the same goofy giant that he has always been, but with a little more grace when it comes to listening and being a truly “good boy”. Also, we live in Cincinnati and they helped make trips down to our home to help him in action training in the home and his own space, while taking him back to Dayton to finish the training. Very convenient for everyone and made it a truly trusting and wonderful experience. If you are wondering if it’s worth the time and money, let me tell you, it 100% is!!

Our dog completed both the puppy board and train and the 4 week adult board and train with Birch Valley and is a regular at daycare. The difference these trainings have made in our pup is night and day. She is not an easy dog and initially came to us reactive, fearful and without much confidence. Post board and train she is exceptionally eager to learn, obedient inside and outside the home, far less reactive and much more confident. Our pup is now equally content chilling on her place bed at home as she is on the patio at a brewery, and hiking in the woods. Tommy, Allie and the Birch Valley crew have made a world or difference. We cannot recommend them enough!

Where do I start??? Tommy and Allie are wonderful! After researching places that train dogs in my area, I came across Birch Valley K9. I knew this is where I wanted to send Tinkerbell for training. Before her board and train I dropped her off for a day at their daycare to ease her into the facility. They recognized that she had anxiety and said it would be best for her to do a 5 week program. Because of the anxiety she would not take food from them which is a big part of the training sessions, Tommy adjusted how he would train her for success, they are dedicated to the dogs succeeding. Tinkerbell has gained a lot, we are still working and practicing at home to give her confidence and structure. They know dogs, they give them love and passion while in their care. Their facility is amazing and they are just making it better. One of the selling points for me, during the board and train your dog lives in the house with Tommy and Allie. They work with the families to train you for your dog succeeding, Tommy even worked with our 9 year old granddaughter and Tinkerbell. Our one-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer went through a five week board and train program with Allie and Tommy and we are astounded at how much easier our lives are with a heel and place-trained dog. Greta is so good on her place bed that when one of our cats walk by, she just sits there. We are no longer chasing a puppy through the house, getting things out of her mouth or telling her no, no, no all the time. My husband and I are in awe. Since she is also heel trained, we work with her at least four times a day on her heel training and this wears her out better than playing at the dog park or at a friend's house or even doggy daycare. I always thought that nothing wore out a dog like another dog but boy was I wrong, it's having them focus on you. Tommy and Allie gave us the tools to manage Greta on a daily basis. My husband and I have completely changed our ways of thinking about dogs and how not only to be a good dog owner but a responsible one because of the education we received and continue to receive from Tommy and Allie. The board and train program is worth every single penny and we will carry these lessons with us for the rest of our dog's life and our lives. I can't recommend them enough.
