Black Water Creek Retrievers

Wow, I can’t say enough good things about Mike and his operation. I have purchased a chocolate and a yellow so far (Forrest and Jenny) from Mike and plan to soon buy a black one. Both of my dogs WAY exceeded my expectations. They’re very healthy, smart and wildly athletic. Mike took great care of my wife and I through the whole process and put two great puppies in our hands. I have seen his kennels and can confidently say you won’t regret taking advantage of his training services or even better bringing home a BWC puppy. Mike will shoot you straight every time. PS. If you can somehow snag a puppy out of the stud dog Gump, you won’t regret it.

My experience with Mike was not close to what I was looking for. He is very polite and respectful. I took a lab in which he specializes in to him. We talked several time before taking dog to him and it was told what I was looking for. I wanted my dog to learn basic obedience. While the dog was there we talked and I went to visit. I didn’t really like what I saw. He was training the dog to be a gun dog. The dog didn’t sit,stay and wasn’t doing great on leash. I discussed that I didn’t won’t a gun dog that I wanted obedience which he said he could do. I went and picked the dog up and he said how well he was doing(I took his word in which I shouldn’t have because when I got home the dog barely walk on leash. Did not sit, stay or anything.)and also took a second dog(a husky). Telling him that we wanted obedience. Sit,stay leash etc. I work out of town and it kinda struck me odd that when we talked he asked if I could come pick dog up early. Just like a week early but none the less I paid for 6 weeks not 5. I work out of town so my wife went to pick dog up. The only thing he taught the dog was to walk on a leash. It does not sit or anything. I understand he is a gun dog trainer and that is why I asked if he could do the other training and he said he could. I am very disappointed in the outcome of both dogs. I do not recommend this trainer. I normally just take my lessons learned and move forward but I am so disappointed in the outcome I thought I needed to share. If you can not do what is asked then just say so and then I wouldn’t have wasted anyones time or money and no hard feelings.

My experience with BWCR and Mike himself have far exceeded my expectations. I was new to the hunting retriever world and Mike went out of his way to be courteous and helpful every step of the way, and the quality of training my dog received went well beyond anything I could have expected. Right out of the gate she was ready to hunt and is on her way to getting titles. If you're in the market for a retriever i certainly recommend you give Mike and BWCR a call.
