One of Canine Companion Consulting’s specialties is Separation Anxiety. Separation Anxiety is a very common behavioral concern in dogs. Studies vary, but indicate that up to 20% of all dogs have separation anxiety on some level and account for up to 40% of dogs referred to trainers or behaviorists. Separation anxiety can manifest itself in many ways. Symptoms of separation anxiety can be but is not limited to inappropriate elimination, destroying things within the household, barking, whining, panting and not being able to settle when the pet parent is not present. Some dogs are attached to a particular person and some dogs just need someone or another animal present. Not only can it be extremely stressful for the dog, but also for the pet parents.

Happy Handling ProgramProgram details
Veterinary care and grooming can be stressful for the dog, pet parent, and pet professionals. Reducing stress and anxiety results in a more productive practice and increased likelihood pet parents will participate in needed preventative and routine care. The Hospital or Salon will become a safer, more productive, and more comfortable environment for all. We have designed a Cooperative Care Program called Happy Handling that can be offered to canines of all ages, either as a group class or privately, depending on the client. We collaborate with the pet parent and pet professional to find out what will work best for each canine companion. We will consult with doctors and groomers to find out what they recommend and are striving for. We work as a team to target the Happy Handling every dog deserves.

Do you work with aggressive, fearful or anxious dogs?
Yes, we work with dogs of all ages and breeds with separation anxiety, general anxiety, aggression, and fear. We have worked with dogs that are uncomfortable around other dogs, humans and objects in their environment.

You can schedule an appointment on our web site or call us. When we meet with you for the very first time we will ask you about the behaviors you are concerned about. We will document our findings in a Behavior Report that we will email to you. We will give you lots of information and recommendations based on your life style and your canine companion(s). From there we will tailor a training plan to meet your needs. We are available between appointments to answer your questions.

We are very, very satisfied with our experience taking a class from Beth and Wayne.
Shortly after adopting our 9-month-old dog, we enrolled in their Canine Training for Beginners class. It turned out to be an incredibly valuable investment in our relationship with our dog, and in our shared future.
One thing we loved about the classes is the mixture of concrete skills we learned how to teach our dog, and the broader principles of dog training that Beth and Wayne taught during each class. This means that coming out of this class, we accomplished two things:
- We now have a set of skills that we have taught to our dog, to help him have good manners with us, and out in the world; and...
- Thanks to the broader principles we learned, we also have an idea of how to teach additional desired behaviors to our dog in the future.
Beth and Wayne are valuable resources when it comes to all things dog-related. The harness and leash they recommended have been great at helping us teach our dog loose-leash walking, without pulling us along. And they are both very patient with dogs, and understanding of dogs' behavior.
Our dog sometimes got impatient during the class, and interrupted things by barking. We felt self conscious about this initially but Beth and Wayne were utterly unflappable, and helped us so much. So if you are at all concerned with ideas like "oh, my dog would be totally unmanageable during a class with other dogs!" please don't let that stop you from enrolling, because Beth and Wayne will be able to help you so much!!
We cannot recommend this class, and these instructors, highly enough.

Great listeners, which I find is refreshing these days with teachers/ experts. Have made a lot of mistakes unwittingly with pets and happy to have them guiding me along the way. Their program takes commitment and habit change .. but will pay off w happier dogs and households.
