Andrew did not complete training classes that would have helped to ensure success for his dog Max. Some of the scheduling conflicts was my fault. However, most of the scheduling conflicts was due to Andrew and not that of my company. 5 weeks after Andrew picked up his dog he advised of a parasite issue( roundworms). All of our personal K9s and those of clients have concrete ex pens that are ALWAYS cleaned and hosed multiple times per day. In addition all clientele are required to be current and up to date on health care and preventatives. We offered to meet with Andrew and did not receive a response.

Yes, I am a FEMA K9 handler and can not predict when a major disaster may occur that requires response. I am fortunate to be a part of a task force and have incredible canines that save lives. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, but human life outranks a minor delay in training. For clarity, your information is false. First, in the last two years I haven’t responded to “ an overseas search” and if I did, I would certainly contact my training clients. Third, I work closely with other trainers in my area when an emergency or unusual circumstance occurs to ensure training is not interrupted. It is your loss to consider myself and mutual trainers as “unqualified “. When our country experiences a major disaster, countless lives are lost, and I respond, every owner is contacted and given the option of picking up their canine until I return home, or leaving the canine and continuing training. My response to an incident is actually fairly short and has not exceeded 2 weeks. Your accusations of 3 and a half weeks and overseas deployments are false and can be verified through public record. Follow up classes are very important when training is completed. I would encourage you to schedule those and to allow us the courtesy to improve anything you were dissatisfied over. I have been both a FEMA K9 handler and a business owner for MANY years without complaint. Visit one town that has been leveled by a tornado, stand where a building use to be and multiple lives were lost, speak to a family whose lives are forever changed, and I think your viewpoint and opinion of emergency responses might change. I consider it an honor and privilege to have the ability to help/assist in these disasters and I won’t apologize for the response to these events.
