CANIS - Dog Behavior & Training

My dog Charlie has been in training with Canis for a little over a month. He's so happy there and actually starts reminding me to get ready early every day. Jamie is his trainer, and he's already earned so much. I'm excited that he'll have opportunities to access classes and structured Doggie daycare days after his current training that will keep him happy, able to socialize and continually learning for years. It's a wonderful group of trainers and dog owners with so much to offer the community. I'd give it 10 starts if I could. The culture promotes excellence in every way.

We sent my dog, a terrier mix named Yoru, to CANIS for the six week board and training program. We got my dog from the shelter about three years ago and from the moment we got him, he has been terrified and insecure dog. He had bitten everyone in our family at least once, and having people over to our apartment was impossible (lunging, barking, shaking, staring guests down) especially at first where people could not move without him barking and lunging. We would have to hold him the whole time. When I went in for my consult with Jamie, she was so understanding and didn’t over promise what was possible. I trusted her, and I’m so glad I did. After six weeks, he had exposure to tons of different people and dogs. He is so much more confident in general now, and the support from her and the whole CANIS team since bringing him home has been exceptional. Any issues we still encounter, they are there to help and provide resources and guidance. I now don’t have to hold him the whole time people are over. I tear up thinking about the progress this little guy has made. This isn’t just training for your dog, this is training for you as well. My husband was skeptical going into it but now admits it was worth it. I know I wouldn’t have been able to get Yoru to where he is today without this team. And I know he is only going to get even better over time with their help. I’ve attached photos of him laying with my friend, asking another friend for treats, sitting in public, all things he NEVER did and I could’ve never thought he would do before CANIS. Now, I know this dog is only going to get even better from here, as long as I continue putting in the work and have the support and guidance of this very knowledgeable team.

Norman is still in his six-week board-and-train program and CANIS has already made such a huge difference in our lives. Each weekend we get to see him for class and get to learn what he’s been learning, and the changes in him are truly remarkable. He’s always been a wonderful dog, but now he has the tools he needs to feel more relaxed and confident and allow his humans to be less stressed a variety of environments. Kaitlyn and the whole training team have shown so much genuine care and have focused directly on the things we’ve struggled with. We’re counting down the days until Norman comes home with his new skills. I know they have a whole crew of dogs there at any given time, but they really make us feel like Norman is their number one client and the way we’ve seen the whole team care about him has been so special. If you’re wondering whether it’s worth the time and investment, it absolutely is. And the report cards with photos and videos make missing him a little easier, too.
