CapeWest Retrievers & Training specializes in personalized training for both dogs and owners, ensuring happy, well-behaved pets. We work with all breeds and ages of dogs, and we also breed British Labradors.
Our programs include:
Puppy Start Program for dogs 6 months and younger
Basic Obedience for dogs 7 months and older
Gun Dog Training, with a focus on British Labradors
We believe that gun dogs can also be well-mannered house pets, which is why all our gun dogs begin with foundational obedience training.

I cannot recommend CapeWest retrievers and training enough. We got a 9-10mo old lab with the intention of him being a service dog. We sent Mr.Hank off to obedience camp for 2 months. Heath, the owner, did an amazing job with training Hank. I have had no issue with taking Mr. Hank out in public in his service vest as he behaves very, very well. Heath works and trains each dog based off its personality and what reward your dog reacts to the best. 100% recommend sending your dog here no matter the breed.

Heath Speck, the owner of cape west, did an amazing job with our Maggie. She is a rescue and went to Heath when she was 9 months old. She was very antsy, skiddish, and couldn’t control herself around food etc. In a matter of 3 months, Heath was able to fix all of these things. We had great communication throughout her stay with him and were able to come visit whenever. Maggie’s first day back home and we can already see so many changes in her. We would 100% recommend Heath for training.

Heath and Caitlin are top notch! Tilly was a crazy doodle. After her 6 week stay she has learned so much. She still gets excited but after learning commands I can now control her. She will sit and wait for me to put her food down and wait for me to tell her she can eat. If she’s being crazy I can tell her place and she goes to her bed, doesn’t matter where we are, if there’s a bed she goes straight to it and wait for her command to get down. She will kennel without me having to pick her up, this is HUGE! I would give them a 10 star if I could!

We were struggling with our 3 month old Pyredoodle and after being with Heath for 6 weeks, he comes to us when we call him, can walk with a leash, goes to his crate immediately when we tell him to and generally just listens to us now!! 🙂 He hasn’t had one accident in the house and is so happy and playful.
The Specks were so great throughout the entire process and we are so very thankful for them
