We rescued a puppy who has a lot of separation anxiety. Carlisle k9 helped us tremendously with being able to manage it. All the obedience commands she learned during her board and train have carried over seamlessly at home. She also gained confidence around other dogs. The trainers are passionate about what they do, care tremendously for all dogs wellbeing, and are eager to teach you how to implement the commands at home. They reached out to see how our dog was doing after training and even provide a few follow-up training sessions. I truly can’t say enough good things about Brad and Helen at Carlisle K9. I have a 2½-year-old working-line German Shepherd, Sig, and when I found them, I was really at a crossroads with him.Sig has severe dog aggression, and I had already tried another trainer, private lessons, and even a board-and-train. I honestly can’t say enough good things about Brad and Helen at Carlisle K-9 and the Belgian Malinois they placed with me, Loki. I’ve had Loki for a year and two months now, so this review isn’t based on a first impression. I’ve had plenty of time to live with him, train him, work with him, and watch his personality and abilities develop. After 14 months with this dog, I can say without hesitation that Loki is the best dog I have ever owned. What makes that statement mean even more to me is how long I searched for the right dog. I spent over a year and a half looking for the right Belgian Malinois, talking with different breeders, researching dogs, and trying to educate myself about the breed. At one point, I was actually preparing to purchase a dog from Arizona sight unseen. Looking back, I realize I could have made a very expensive mistake. Fortunately, before I did, I crossed paths with Brad. What impressed me from the beginning was that Brad wasn’t trying to sell me a dog when he gave me his advice. We were simply two guys having a conversation about dogs. He listened to what I was looking for, answered my questions, and gave me straightforward advice based on his knowledge and experience with the breed. There was no sales pitch and no pressure. The more we talked, the more I realized just how knowledgeable he was about Belgian Malinois—their temperament, drive, intelligence, working ability, and most importantly, the importance of matching the right dog with the right owner and family. He is obedient, confident, energetic, eager to please, and always ready to work. But after having him for over a year, what impresses me the most is how well-rounded and well-balanced he is. He has excellent protection instincts and knows when it is time to work, but he also knows how to be part of a family. He is great with my family and my grandkids, good around strangers, and understands how to conduct himself in different situations. That balance is exactly what I wanted in a Belgian Malinois. Anyone familiar with this breed knows that a great Malinois isn’t just about energy, speed, intelligence, or protection. Temperament matters. Genetics matter. Breeding matters. Having a dog with the drive and ability to work while also having the temperament to live as a trusted member of the family says a lot about where that dog came from. After 14 months of owning, living with, and training Loki, I appreciate him more today than when I first brought him home. The more I work with him, the more impressed I am with what Brad and Helen produced. After spending a year and a half searching and talking with different breeders, I’m extremely grateful that my search eventually led me to Carlisle K-9. Brad and Helen didn’t just sell me a dog.
