Chomps Dog Training

5 stars for Chomps! We’ve never left a google review but leaving your dog at a board and train takes so much trust, we thought it would be helpful. We researched and visited several other options and we’re so glad we chose Chomps! Well worth the investment!! We brought them a highly reactive, non-aggressive, but extremely hyper, excitable one-year-old Shepherd-Rottie mix shelter dog who had no training whatsoever. Was found on the street, likely escaped from confinement/ extreme isolation. From the shelter: no indication of having been on a leash, in a crate, in a car, in a house, up/down stairs, all household sounds new, afraid of ponds/streams; no idea how to interact with other dogs - ran straight at them like a racing greyhound and launched himself on top of them to “play”; pulled on leash like a sled dog; jumped on and mouthed adults and especially our teenage kids constantly; always in perpetual motion, eyes darting around frantically, incapable of settling or self-soothing; exhibited fixation behaviors with shadows, snow falling, leaves blowing, etc. The kind of dog that, before we adopted him, would likely have been put down, in/out of shelters, or live a life of confinement. Bohdi went into the Behavioral Program for five weeks working primarily with Marcos. Goals: 1) reduce reactivity around dogs- learn how to avoid/greet/match play level/comply when called away. CHECK 2) teach him to focus. Huge step toward continued reduction of reactivity. CHECK 3) teach him to settle CHECK 4) Solid obedience training: Crate training, Sit, Down, extended Place (miracle!), excellent Heel - perfect position (still refining w/ e-collar w/ high level of distractions), Recall: solid indoor off-leash recall CHECK (BTW-This transferred immediately at home to 100% off-leash recall indoors and yard w/ treat reinforcement- and 100% off leash e-collar-assisted outdoors w/ distractions - dogs, rabbits, birds!!! BOO-Yaa! LOTS of repetitions, but dream come true to have him running free and exploring and then flying back to us :) Amazing 2+hour go-home lesson! Excellent hands on training with e-collar and many tips about how to apply the training to home environment. Afterward, Bohdi was still as closely bonded with us even tho we’d only adopted him a few weeks before; he is maybe even more able to bond since he’s SO much more able to be calm and to relax. Chomps operation: Method: high engagement with play/treats and setting expectations with e-collar - very effective balance (we didn’t want e-collar only as some trainers do); very accessible/ responsive staff to answer questions; bi-weekly photos/videos/ text status reports - exciting to see and very reassuring; clearly love what they do (videos showed Bohdi working hard, but happy and bonded with Marcos); notified us of goopy eye and treatment - trusted him in their care; field trips real world application; offer 3 refresher lessons; they deliver what they advertise! FYI: We have needed as much training and practice as Bohdi did to do it right - to be consistent for him and ensure success with us. Training is never done, but now it will be joyful - building trust and a stronger bond. At home, our strong-willed Bohdi-boy tested us on everything, but following Marcos and Nick’s instructions and advice, he got the idea that the expectations were the same. Great success with modifying behavior at home: digging in yard, jumping on counters and closed doors, chewing crate bed, stealing socks, attacking the vacuum, etc. Chomps has given us a wonderful, loving companion who will enjoy so much more freedom and happiness in his life with us. After our reactive dog Zoey had a few too many sketchy instances, we called Chomps and enrolled her in their human aggression program. Zoey did amazing under their guidance and is now readjusted to our home life great. We also really appreciated the lengthy final session where we learned how best to support her at home. I would highly recommend Chomps to anyone looking to make life with a reactive dog manageable and pleasant.

My puppy Golden Retriever went to Chomps for the 2 part puppy training school. What we saw after graduation was a completely changed dog who is focused, trained and obedient. My wife and I have our first baby on the way and are extremely glad we had this training done before hand. Knowing we’re not going to be dealing with a disorderly dog while entering parenthood provides us with great confidence. It’s truly impressive how well he to heels and stays where he’s told for long extended periods of time no matter the distractions. I highly recommend Nick, Mike and the rest of the trainers at chomps. I believe the money spent was a worthy investment that we’ll be thankful for, for years to come.
