I don't currently have a dog, but I was preparing to volunteer at my local shelter when I discovered Annie Phenix's website. Although my volunteer plans have been postponed due to my current circumstances, I'm incredibly grateful for everything I've learned through Annie's courses. Such a great trainer! Annie was very helpful in many ways to help us figure out how to diagnose and train our reactive dog. We have taken these steps to heart and have seen major strides in him, from him being overly attentive and reactive around family to now being calm cool and relaxed in stressful situations and sweet with family in all age ranges Shadow is truly a different dog now. When I adopted my adult, highly sensitive, anxious, "reactive" dog I knew that she needed more than traditional training to help her navigate this world (She had already been through intensive training while living with her previous family which resulted in an "obedient," highly sensitive, anxious, "reactive" dog). I knew I wanted to take a more holistic approach with my dog to give her the tools she needed to cope and feel safe in this world but was unsure how to go about doing this. Through my research, Annie was one of the people whose name came up time and time again. Her whole dog, trauma-informed approach focuses on physical and emotional health, feeling of safety, co-regulation, and seeing the behavior as information rather than something that needs to be corrected. I have read her book, taken one of her courses, listened to many interviews with her and had a phone consult. I have learned, and continue to learn, so much from Annie, and my dog is better for it.
