Questions & answers

From Google

What people have asked about this business.

What dog training methods do you use?

Positive reinforcement first—food, play, enrichment—then fair boundaries and interrupters as needed. For behavior cases, we layer in counter-conditioning, desensitization, and stress-management protocols.

Question on Google
What is your policy on refunds or guarantees for your training services?

Your dog's behavior is extremely complex and guaranteeing results is unethical. Any trainer who gives you a guarantee of specific results is giving you a red flag, not peace of mind. Guaranteeing specific results usually means they are coercing your dog into complying or addressing symptoms of behaviors versus addressing underlying needs and emotions. This is usually done by force, fear, or quick fixes that don’t last. That’s not how we operate. Here’s what we do guarantee: You will see progress. We promise. We will treat both you and your dog as individuals and tailor your plan to fit your needs and lifestyle. We will give you the tools and guidance to build better habits, confidence, and manners. We will give you the tools and guidance to correct and prevent problem behaviors. We’ll be honest about what’s possible, what it will take, and how to get there. We’ll support you every step of the way. We won't leave you hanging.

Question on Google
Will online dog training really work for my dog?

Yes. Live video sessions mirror our in-home lessons and include real-time coaching, homework, and video feedback. Perfect for clients outside North Carolina or on tight schedules.

Question on Google
Who can join Group Classes?

Group Classes are only available to current or former Command Canine clients who have completed a Private Lesson Package or Board & Train Program. This ensures every dog has the foundation to succeed.

Question on Google
Can you train puppies and older dogs?

Absolutely. Dogs of any age can learn; we simply adjust the pace and rewards accordingly.

Question on Google
What makes Command Canine different from other dog trainers?

We utilize the Mind & Manners Method, a relationship-based approach that combines obedience training and behavior modification. It targets why a behavior happens first so results stick and dogs become calm, confident companions. We’re also the training team behind the Keeper & Kin Project—the only program in North America specializing in the rehabilitation of former research beagles. These dogs have never had a name, only a number. They’ve never touched grass or lived in a home, and their adopters need more than good intentions—they need real coaching and expert support. Keeper & Kin exists to serve those dogs and the courageous humans who step up to love them.

Question on Google
How long before I see results?

Many owners notice calmer walks within two weeks. Full transformation depends on consistency, the dog’s history, and your chosen program.

Question on Google
Can I see my dog while they're at the board and train?

You’re always welcome to see your dog, but we strongly recommend waiting until the program is complete. Dogs are creatures of habit, and seeing you mid-training can make them sad when you leave again. That may disrupt the new routines we’re building and set progress back a few days. Don’t worry, you won’t feel out of the loop! You’ll get regular updates, pictures, videos, and messages from your trainer every day!

Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21

Question on Google
Will my dog be placed in a kennel during a board and train session?

Not here! Our trainers only work with 2-3 dogs at a time in their home, so your dog gets TONS of training, and gets to spend time as they usually would in your home; resting, playing, cuddling, etc!

Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21

Question on Google
Will my dog think I abandoned them if I do a board and train program?

It’s totally normal to worry about this but rest assured, your dog won’t feel abandoned. They may miss you a bit the first day or two, but dogs are incredibly adaptable, especially when they’re busy learning, playing, and bonding with their trainer. Most owners find the separation is actually harder on them than on their dog! And when it’s time to reunite? Dogs are always thrilled to see their people and love showing off everything they’ve learned.

Question on Google
Where are your services available?

We offer in-person services across Charlotte, Lake Norman, Matthews, and nearby towns. Plus, we now offer online dog training for clients nationwide and in Canada.

Question on Google
How much does private or in-home training cost?

Packages range from $750–$1500, depending on the number of lessons and the package you choose. We’ll help you pick the right program on your discovery call.

Question on Google
Do you work with aggressive or reactive dogs?

Yes. We help all dogs build calm, reliable behavior. From distracted puppies to anxious seniors, we’re fully capable of removing the overwhelm and replacing it with calm confidence for both you and your dog.

Question on Google
How often will I need to attend training sessions with my dog?

It is important for you to be present at each training session. We train you to train your dog, so you gain skills to continue training at home.

My big boy Buddy had a plethora of issues and after an intensive board and train I am proud to say I have a well behaved and CONTROLLABLE dog. He was clearly well loved and the one on one intensive training with JaXx was very affective. The follow up communication is impressive. And the opportunity for follow up and group training classes for continued success is all part of the package. We are well pleased and would highly recommend the services of Command Canine.

Jaxx spent almost 2 hours with us when Rex came home. She made sure everyone, even my 7 and 11 year old kids, were comfortable with the commands. Jaquan and Maggie have been lifesavers for us and our family. We rescued a bully mixed breed who is reactive to people and dogs. Traditional obedience training gave Wally manners but it failed to help his reactivity. He was the terror of the neighborhood, we could not have anyone come to our house and we couldn't take him anywhere. We were at the point of making a very difficult decision of either rehoming him or possible euthanasia. We contacted Command Canine and Maggie came to our house and met Wally. He befriended her very quickly so I knew we were heading in the right direction. We decided to do a 3 week Board and Train program with Jaquan. After 3 weeks, Wally came home a better version of himself! He is still reactive, but it is more manageable and we are now able to attend group classes and go on neighborhood walks. Not only do they work with Wally, they also work with us to be better dog owners. He can now be around other dogs and people. I couldn't be happier to have Wally be the dog I know he wants to be. He is making better decisions and we are all in a better place. We know this continues to be a work in progress. But Command Canine is in our corner for the long haul. Thank you for giving us a happier dog with a bright future!

My dog just finished his two week board and train with JaXx and his leash walking is so much better now. I’ve done a few other training classes and they helped, but I think the focused training during the boarding with JaXx helped with the speed of improvement and retaining the training. We’ve still got private lessons and group classes to work on a few of his other issues, but I’ve got a much better outlook and I’m less worried now when I take him outside.
