Companion Canines

I enrolled my dog in a two-week board and train program but decided to bring her home a week early. The training methods used here were not a good fit for us, and I felt uncomfortable leaving my 4 1/2 month old puppy there. I do not recommend this trainer. During my puppy’s stay, she withheld meals and walks as a form of “punishment” if my puppy didn’t behave to her standard. This is not an accepted or humane training method. Puppies learn best through positive reinforcement, not food or exercise deprivation. At 4 1/2 months old, my puppy should have been guided with patience and consistency, not made to go hungry or miss walks. I left early because I felt this approach was damaging and not in my dog’s best interest. I want other pet owners to know my experience so they can make an informed decision before leaving their dogs here. Feel free to contact me through messenger if you would like further info.

Janet, and Companion canines have blessed us with a full half of our family of four. Both of these beautiful pups were rescued by Janet and trained to be amazing therapy dogs working with youth in Colorado. Janet has always been an amazing steward of the dogs she trains and carries them with her. Our oldest pup Piper had a very traumatic transport to us and Janet came all the way out to make sure Piper could be successful in her new life. The training and soothing skills she is able to teach these dogs make them the most wonderful additions to any family. We wouldn’t think of anyone else for training, boarding or any other canine needs. So much so that we drove 3200 miles to bring our family of four together! And would do it again in a heartbeat.

I attended Janet’s puppy class when held in Traverse City, and followed up with her two week board and train program for not one lab but then a second.I also have her online training program. She can “read” dogs of all breeds and ages, and her instructions are clear, practical, and doable. Sophie and Finn love to run and swim with her pack when we’re away, the best dog vacation ever. What a gift to have our own local dog whisperer!
