I wish I’d started working with Mark months (years!) ago! Would have saved me and my (fully unplanned/emergency ) rescue Belgian Malinois / Dutch Shepherd A Lot of unnecessary stress -& a lot of money! I’ve done so much training and worked with so many trainers- most of whom say they are “balanced.” However, Mark is the first one (with one possible exception outside of Atlanta) who I believe is actually knowledgeable enough to make this claim and fully understand what this means. Although training in general seems to have come so far and my experience has been that most trainers care, mean well, and try to keep up, but in reactive, potentially dangerous situations with rescue breeds such as mine, most rely on tools and methods that are either ineffective or more aversive and underlying-anxiety-perpetuating than ones which actually correct concurrent with the positive association and trust so incredibly critical to helping a traumatized dog make Actual, real, meaningful and lasting change. I was told by one group (a board and train in Fla) to just accept that I’d never have a friendly dog— and that I just needed to learn to manage her. I worked (at least a little) with each of the many recommendations from others, but instinctively felt and could see that, while these were helping in some ways and situations, they were actually Not helping my dog, who is now Very sweet, happy, playful, confident and trusting in Most situations— and now, after working with Mark, I believe I have the right information /the right foundation on which to continue to build my sweet dog to become the happy dog she was born to be, even in the challenging environments. Mark has personally done (& initiated!) extensive, well documented, and compelling research — and demonstrates his genuine care for the animal, with the highest goal of reaching the needed outcome as quickly as possible (if at all possible, without simply needing weekly recurring trainings). He gave me information and carefully showed me and my ‘girl’ how to eliminate aggressive reactivity in multilple situations in ONE session! So grateful and look forward to working with Mark & team to ensure my understanding and ability to transfer this to different environments! 100% Highly recommend!! I hope more people start seeing and implementing behavior modification for challenging behaviors as Mark and his team do!
