Cupids Doghouse

Top notch service, very impressed with his professionalism and leadership. I took my 3 1/2 month old Doberman to Cupid to learn the basics sit, stay, down, that I thought I could teach myself. Definitely not the case, but when he returned from his 4 week training class I was amazed. Cupid and his sons built a foundation that allows me to now have the confidence to train him with the process that they have established. Highly recommended, thanks for everything!!

Greetings Friends, this recommendation has two parts. The first is a direct review and the second is a detailed reflective review. Direct Review: I highly recommend Cupid's Doghouse for your dog training needs. Detailed Review: If I had to choose one word to describe my initial experience with Cupid's Doghouse it would be RESET. I have a well loved, super socialized, very large breed beautiful puppy that my ENTIRE community absolutely adores. Her temperament was and still is AMAZING. People love her and she enjoys the attention. My biggest issue before sending her to board and train was the number of people who would approach her without requesting my permission to engage with her. Random people would call for her or come up to pet her and do something to rile her up. It was infuriating. I did not know how to manage the whole situation and she began to develop unwanted behaviors as a result of random people encouraging her to jump on their knees, chest, and even to come toward them without my permission. As she became older, she became much stronger. I knew I was not equipped to do what needed to be done for her to develop into a very loved and well trained pet. I did not know what to do, but I knew something needed to be done. Cupid's Doghouse was a recommendation made by some woman at a restaurant who had a cousin and a sister that have been sending their pet's to Cupid's Doghouse for years. I found them online read the reviews and watched the short videos. Then a friend of mine recommended me directly to Cupid for training in the same weekend. I spoke with Cupid directly and asked a TON of questions. He answered all of my questions and said this to me that day, "We train the breed of dog you have, not the dog you think you have." After many...I mean MANY conversations with the trainers I learned that there was so much about her breed I did not know or truly understand that was pertinent to me being a better and more responsible owner. Having a large breed dog is a privilege, knowing how to integrate a large breed dog into daily life in a manner that honors their natural instincts and respects the necessary boundaries for successful and sustainable companionship is an absolute responsibility. Board and train was the only way I was able to be in the position to do better. My puppy and I needed a complete RESET. It was hard to be away, but it was necessary. The reset allow her to develop the muscle memory for Level 1 Obedience without me as a distraction. I recognized I was the obstacle in cultivating a successful, respectful, and sustainable human-dog companionship bond. I was not confident in my ability and I really did not understand the breed. It is a process and I am sure Cupid's Doghouse will stick with you through the process. I had to trust the process and I had to trust myself to work through the process. I knew my work was just beginning once my puppy returned from Board and Train. She returned with a greater appreciation for me, I don't know how to explain it. I just know what I observed and what I felt. The trainers demonstrated what she learned and what we needed to continue working on within our environment. My puppy and I had about a week together before I had to have knee surgery.... I know right....that's a story for another time. I could tell she was trying to see if the new way of being applied to our relationship. We practiced daily and throughout the day. I tried to get as many reps in as possible before surgery. I needed her to know and respect our reset and our new way of working. Today I am writing this review two weeks out from surgery and three weeks from when she returned from board and train. She's still the same very sweet puppy that I sent away for training, she's just better. The RESET/training was for both of us. Now I have the confidence to expect excellence from her. Our work is still in progress and Cupid has stayed the course with supporting us. Do not hesitate and invest with an open mind and heart.
