All Border Collie pups NEED be tested for their herding instinct level before the breeder sales them so you know on a scale from 0 to 10 if you will have a pup that will make a good family pet or it needs to work stock. I test ALL my pups starting at 8 weeks of age, even some pups sooner, then I can show the buyers the right pup for them. Border Collies are one of the greatest herding breed out there. Therefore, you need to know what instinct level will fit "your" needs.

All Border Collie pups need to be tested on sheep when they are pups for their hering instinct level before they are sold so the breeder knows which pups are best for working cattle, or sheep, or family a family dog. If a breeder doesn't know how or hasn't tested on sheep. Border Collies are a very high energy dog & you & your family are not, a Border Collie isn't for you. A Border Collie is born with an extended attention span, that why the earlier one starts training on them the better the B/C is. I test all my pups between the age of 6 to 8 weeks of age. I also start their obedience training at 8 weeks. I've been breeding & training B/C's since 1987, I own 22 of my own, they all have their own job.
