Dog Logic with Barb

YMMV. Barbara seemed very knowledgeable and her classes are reasonably priced. However, she was pretty adamant about forcing some of her preferred grooming techniques on us. One of those being dulling down the nails with a dremmel instead of clipping them. She decided to demonstrate this on my dog and if I had known what she was going to do I would have never let her. She flipped him on his back and proceeded to dremmel his nails, something he had never experienced before, while he made sounds I had never heard from him before...whining and crying desparately. When I raise my dogs I play with their feet, ears, tail, etc., to get them used to handling and grooming. Before going to her puppy class and being traumatized my dog had no issues with nail clippings. After this experience he was never the same. I tried to reacclimate him to nail trimmings & clippers, but I ended up having to take him to a professional groomer. It was a two man job. The groomer would have to muzzle and blindfold him while her assistant restrained him. Dremmels are supposed to be introduced slowly, as I learned from consulting with my groomer and a different trainer.
