Dog's Best Friend Training

Overall a positive experience taking our 4mo puppy to group class back in Spring 2024. Learned good basics such as sit, lay down, and come. A nice packet was provided so you could continue practice at home and covered more topics than we had time for in class. A variety of dog sizes and ages in the class did make it difficult at times since everyone was on different training levels. This was especially evident during the socialization portion of class. This portion of the class was really the only part that I felt was not the most ideal and caused a bit of frustration on our end. Our puppy is a German Shepard mix and was high energy and had a older brother (dog) at home so he liked to play rough. During socialization the dogs were taken off leash and our puppy was definitely a bit rough and rowdy. I felt that the trainers did not provide us tips to avoid this behavior with dogs our puppy did not know and how to instill good manners. Instead they just made us keep our puppy on a long leash during socialization time which caused him and other dogs to get tied up and seemed to frustrate him and other dogs more. I was hoping we would get more guidance on how to correct this behavior rather than just be told to restrain our dog.
