Dog Savvy Dog Training

We reached out to many dog trainers looking for help with our 2 shihtzu puppies, but none of them felt like the perfect fit. Until we found Dog Savvy!! Not to sound dramatic, but our lives have been completely changed for the better since we started working with Dog Savvy. Our pups went from having a lack of structure, stimulation, and exercise, to now being well rounded, happy, and fully integrated into our family. We’ve all heard of the Dog Whisperer, but I would argue that Andrew is the true dog whisperer. I’m a therapist that works with children, and Andrew’s approach with dogs aligns with our family’s values. We had an amazing experience with Dog Savvy Dog Training. I knew after meeting Andrew only a few times how great he was and referred a neighbor with a puppy to him. Andrew is a fantastic instructor who so clearly knows and loves dogs and understands them so well. He also knows HOW to teach them and just as importantly, how to teach us as the dog parents. Andrew is incredibly patient and kind and our dog Boone adores him. When we started working with Andrew, Boone was an energetic 15 month-old large puppy and while he was quite clever and had basic obedience skills, he now has skills that go way beyond any dog I’ve ever had. Andrew taught Boone to learn how to make good decisions using an approach unlike any I’ve ever seen before. The approach is so unique and it’s made all the difference in the world for Boone. Boone - who used to have what we called “Boone time” every night where he’d wreck the couch and throw the pillows around and make a giant mess and then do zoomies around the yard - now sits on the couch with us and snuggles and watches TV. He’s a pleasure to have around and spend time with and is overall a happier, more confident and content dog. We’ve learned how to walk him in a way that makes it fun, in contrast to our prior walks when we used a harness and struggled to keep him under control. It’s a pleasure to walk him. He has also developed excellent manners - his jumping is under control, he sits when he sees other dogs, doesn’t chase squirrels and looks to us for guidance. What’s even more wonderful is how polite he is with other dogs and when they show aggression towards him it’s almost as if he shrugs his shoulders and says to himself “okay, that dog doesn’t want to play so let’s move on.” He’s not aggressive at all and while his feelings might be hurt because he wanted to play, he happily walks away with us and is ready for his next adventure. I can’t say enough good things about our training experience and the continued support we’ll receive to help fine tune our skills. We now have a happy and polite dog who is eager to please us and that is a true gift.

Had a very good experience with Dog Savvy. Their strategies for dog training really work. I feel we have a particularly nervous little dog who would bark, be on constant patrol for things to bark at, went crazy when the doorbell would ring, would constantly pull my arm from its socket on walks. Now all of this much improved due to the help from Andrew and Britt. Price was fair and in our experience well worth the results we obtained. Andrew is super reliable, friendly and fun. It’s clear he loves his work with dogs. Highly recommend Dog Savvy!!!!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Training with Andrew has been a life changing experience. I got a golden retriever puppy at 8 weeks old and he was not your calm, cuddly, gentle boy. He was a terror. The biting me, jumping on me, and just being crazy were out of control. I'm on some Golden Retriever groups on FB and these types are issues with a puppy are NOT uncommon. When people ask for advice on what to do about a crazy pup, I see other owners commenting: He needs more mental stimulation, he needs more chew toys, distract and redirect, more walks or oh he's just a puppy... if I had only followed this type of guidance, I would have given him up for adoption by now. I'm so grateful to have found Andrew! Bodhi is a completely different dog now and becoming the dog of my dreams. He's learning life skills, emotional regulation, and making good choices on his own vs just getting more and more stimulation. At 5 months old now, he can just sit in the same area as me while I work at home and relax without needing constant supervision or distractions. He is much better with manners, greeting people, the biting and jumping have stopped, and he walks great on leash without pulling. We still have work to do, and will continue to work to hone his skills but he's closer to the end goal than he ever would've been if I had listened to other trainers or just done 'obedience' training. Not only is his program game changing, but the level of support and encouragement are top notch! Thank you, Andrew and Brittany!
