The words "behavioral euthanasia," "rehoming," and "aggression" are among the hardest I have ever had to share with clients, and I do not use them lightly. As a Certified CPDT-KA and CCUI instructor with over 25 years of experience working with reactive and fear-based dogs, I am trained to assess the type of fear, anxiety, and aggression your dogs are experiencing and to communicate my findings honestly, even when it is hard to hear. This is my professional and ethical obligation to every family I serve and to every person who interacts with their dogs.<br><br>You booked a 50-minute in-home consultation, but the session was extended to two hours (at no additional charge) to ensure all your questions were answered and the full history of your dogs' fears and aggression was thoroughly explored. During that time, we covered a full range of options: a management plan, a structured training plan, a veterinary-and-vet-behaviorist partnership with possible pharmaceutical support, enrichment strategies, and, yes, in the interest of full transparency, the harder realities of rehoming and behavioral euthanasia. <br><br>That final option was raised specifically because of the severity of the bite, which resulted in hospitalization for the other dog. My background in bite-level assessment and risk management directly informed that recommendation.<br><br>Your vet and I share a long-standing professional relationship built on mutual respect. Conversations between members of a dog's care team, including vets, trainers, walkers, and sitters, are essential when safety is a concern. They exist to support the dogs and protect everyone involved. The information shared between the vet and me was the information you provided via intake and in person. <br><br>As a dog owner, you have a legal and moral obligation to disclose your dog's history of bites to anyone who interacts with them. This was stated explicitly in my written evaluation, and it bears repeating here.<br><br>Following our session, I sent a multi-page written evaluation and a follow-up email asking how you would like to move forward.<br><br>After more than 20 years, I have sat with many families in this exact moment, and I understand how overwhelming it can feel.
