Questions & answers

From Google

What people have asked about this business.

What should I have ready for dog training sessions with you?

Please have your dog’s favorite treats, a few toys, their regular equipment (leash, collar, etc.), and any training tools you currently use. A relatively distraction-free area helps for initial lessons. We recommend not feeding your dog immediately before sessions so they’re motivated by treats. Also, have ready examples of problematic behaviors you’d like to address and any questions prepared. We’ll bring additional training tools as needed.

Question on Google
Is my dog too old for training?

No dog is ever too old to learn! Senior dogs often excel in training as they’re typically calmer and more focused than younger dogs. We’ve successfully trained dogs well into their teens. We adjust our methods to accommodate any age-related limitations while still achieving impressive results. Training also provides valuable mental stimulation for older dogs, which helps keep their minds sharp. It’s truly never too late to improve your dog’s behavior.

Question on Google
How long are dog training sessions?

Our standard sessions last 60-75 minutes, which we’ve found to be the optimal length for productive training without overwhelming your dog. The first session is often 90 minutes as it includes a thorough assessment of your dog’s behavior, your home environment, and your specific goals. Between sessions, we recommend daily 10-15 minute practice periods to reinforce skills. Consistency with short, positive practice sessions yields better results than infrequent longer sessions.

Question on Google
How long before I see results in my dog's behavior?

Most clients notice improvements after just one session! However, lasting change typically requires 3-6 sessions with consistent practice. Every dog learns at their own pace, and factors like age, breed, and previous training experience can influence progress. We provide clear homework exercises between sessions to reinforce training. What sets us apart is our personalized approach—we adapt methods based on your dog’s unique personality and your family’s lifestyle.

Question on Google
Do you use positive reinforcement?

Yes! We exclusively use positive reinforcement techniques that build trust and confidence. Our training methods never involve fear, intimidation, or pain. We focus on rewarding desired behaviors while teaching owners how to effectively communicate with their dogs. This approach creates a stronger bond between you and your pet while establishing clear boundaries. Positive methods are not only more humane but also produce more reliable, long-lasting results.

Question on Google
Does my dog need behavior modification training?

Your dog may benefit from behavior modification if they show aggression, anxiety, fear, reactivity, resource guarding, or other concerning behaviors that impact their quality of life or safety. Unlike basic obedience (sit, stay), behavior modification addresses the emotional roots of problematic behaviors using specialized techniques. During our free consultation, we’ll assess your dog’s specific needs and determine the appropriate approach. Not all unwanted behaviors require intensive modification—some respond well to simple management and basic training. Early intervention typically yields the best results.

Question on Google
How does in-home dog training differ from group classes?

In-home dog training addresses behavior problems where they actually occur, allowing us to target specific issues in your dog’s everyday environment. This personalized approach means your dog learns in familiar surroundings without the distractions of other dogs or unfamiliar locations. We observe the dynamics between you and your pet in your natural setting, allowing us to customize training techniques that work specifically for your household. This targeted approach typically produces faster, more sustainable results than generalized group classes where individual attention is limited and real-life scenarios can’t be replicated.

Question on Google
Do you really come to my home for dog training?

Yes! I provide personalized, one-on-one dog training right in your Colorado Springs home. It’s more comfortable for your dog and more effective for real-life behavior. I train where the problems happen—your living room, your yard, your neighborhood. 🐶 In-home training = real results.

Laurie helped me manage my dog Helix's anxiety and aggression. Before working with Laurie, Helix lunged on runners, bikers, and other dogs while walking on leash. She also showed signs of aggression towards other dogs when stressed or overwhelmed. After a few sessions with Laurie, Helix gets daily compliments on her behavior. She goes on long hikes in moderately crowded areas without any issues. Thanks to Laurie, Helix is now a calm and well-behaved dog.

Laurie is amazing and gave us some new tools that have changed our lives with our dogs. She came over to work with our livestock guard dog that was taking her job a little too seriously with people. We definitely saw a lot of improvement with her, and we were able to train her to be OK with a housesitter so we could go on vacation. She also noticed bad behavior from our three intense house aussies. They would need to be kenneled whenever visitors came over due to lots of barking and one even nipping at visitors. The herd would go crazy at any delivery drivers, knocking, or even just the sound of the recliner clicking closed. Seemed like they would go into crazy barking a dozen times a day. It's all been solved and they now just calmly wander around with visitors. Our friends that have known them are stunned. They were used to asking if the dogs were put up. The doorbell goes off and no barking! They had been to other trainers and have no issue outside our home, all the bad behavior was home based. Wish we would have called sooner rather than just thinking that was how the breed acted. Thank you!

Great experience with Laurie. She really helped with building confidence with my 1 year old Havanese. She is very knowledgeable and knows how to really connect with your dog. Would recommend her to anyone. It was a pleasure working with her.

Our dog was already a very good girl except for the one issue of being aggressive towards other dogs in our apartment complex. We had been quoted thousands of dollars for weeks of training, but we gave Laurie a shot and one session later, we have a way of communicating with our dog that has resolved her issue! She's been an all the way good girl ever since 🐶
