I joined this class for my 9 month old puppy hoping to expand her training as she’s already taken a basic training class, she is veryyy well behaved I just wanted to lock in her previous skills. Each class starts by explaining one concept for 30 mins and then the trainer goes around to each person to watch them do it so for a lot of the class you are sitting. This seems helpful but it takes a while and you don’t learn much. The trainers were incredibly nice and seemed passionate about their job and you can tell they do love dogs but they use a leash correction technique and I didn’t mind and am totally okay with it as long as it’s for correction- not punishment however, they demonstrated it on a 2 year old untrained German Shepard that had to be over 100 pounds and they did used an appropriate amount of force as he was very strong and not behaving. They did this technique over the next two weeks but never demonstrated on my puppy or a smaller dog. One week they had a “pop quiz” and asked me to demonstrate what I used as a leash correction so I did what I thought was an appropriate amount of force for her (which is not a lot) and my puppy responded in the way the trainer wanted. They then wanted to demonstrate how to train your dog not to jump on people and used my puppy as an example and the owner proceeded to use the same amount of force on my 35 pound puppy as he did on the German Shepard. He yanked her neck so hard that she was flung back and yelped and proceeded to shake and try to cower behind me. He then did it again after I was trying to grab her from him!!!! I was in tears!!!!! Never went back after that day and they never followed up with me to ask why.
