Dogs We Trust - Dog Training

In March of this year, a spunky, 10-week-old Flat-Coated Retriever named Ryder joined our family. Unlike the previous six dogs in my life, Ryder has presented us with some challenges for which we were unprepared. She was so adorable that we spent too much time catering to her whims and not enough time establishing necessary boundaries. We weren’t as organized and consistent as we had been with our previous dogs when it came to house rules and basic training. We needed to identify and correct the unintended mistakes we had made with Ryder and move forward with training methods best suited to our puppy and our family circumstances. Although we considered a couple of other training establishments, Jonathan Irons came highly so recommended by one of our neighbors that we decided to use the services of Dogs We Trust. Jonathan worked with us at our home for the first few sessions. Then we agreed that Ryder needed more intensive training than we had been providing. For the past two weeks, Ryder has been going to school at Jonathan’s facility. She can’t wait to go in the morning and always comes home happy. This is going to be a process and will take some time, both at school and at home, but we are moving in the right direction. Jonathan’s talent is remarkable. He puts more heart into his work than any trainer I’ve ever known. His flexibility and ability to tailor his services to the specific needs of the dogs and families he works with is especially important to us. In addition to his work with Ryder during the day, Jonathan spends time after school teaching me about Ryder’s needs and behaviors. He demonstrates training techniques, watches me practice, and provides immediate feedback to me as well as to Ryder. He also provides detailed written summaries of her progress and recommendations for the future. We have never boarded any of our dogs. They either traveled with us or stayed with friends and relatives we trusted. However, after spending time at Jonathan’s facility, I wouldn’t hesitate to board Ryder there when we travel in the future. The other dogs Ryder plays with at Dogs We Trust and wonderful role models and teachers for her. The facility and grounds are ideal for Ryder’s needs to run and play safely. Most important, along with his talent, Jonathan’s warmth and optimism are inspirational. I look forward to continuing to work with him so that Ryder develops into a secure, confident, comfortable, and well-trained companion.

While both of our dogs (a dachshund & a chiweenie) have now passed away, the time they were able to spend with the leaders at Dogs We Trust was beautiful to observe. The team carries themselves with integrity, kindness, understanding (towards both the owner and the canines), and excellent communication. Jonathan has a gift for relating, connecting and using all elements of life & the environment you and your pet are in to teach and council. Our dogs responded to him with trust, affection and obedience. And we were able to learn how to better understand our dogs signals and cues. I would highly recommend others take their pets (young and old!) to Dogs We Trust. And be sure to come with an open heart and open ears to learn for yourself how to better connect to and care for your pet. It is a comfortable, safe and fun environment!

I have a now-7-year old German Shepherd who I re-homed when he was 15 months old. Due to differences in training philosophy during the early years in my home, Phoenix was not adequately trained/socialized. So fast forward 5 years later, when my living situation changed, I knew I needed to get some training for Phoenix. After trying a couple of other trainers, a friend of mine referred Jonathan Irons, and I am so glad she did. Jonathan's method of training for Phoenix in my home centered around understanding his surroundings, and setting boundaries based on his breed. He did an initial assessment in my home, watched his behavior (the behavior I was specifically needing help with), and scaffolded strategies week by week. He was kind but firm with Phoenix. And Phoenix absolutely loved his training sessions. I learned a lot about my dog from Jonathan's sessions, and learned how to be a better owner/caretaker for Phoenix. To this day, my dog is a joy to walk, and his excessive barking with anxiety when people come to the door has lessened tremendously. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Jonathan if you need any kind of training for your dog. He personalizes his training based on what your specific dog needs. We love Dogs We Trust. You know some places you drop off your dog and they are nervous to get out and you feel bad, but whenever we drop our doodle Rudy here he happily jumps out like he’s at another of his homes. (Unlike some other places we’ve tried) Jonathan is always great with Rudy and you can tell he’s a dog lover through and through. There’s lots of space and we never worry about leaving Rudy, even for a full week. Easy to recommend Dogs We Trust, your pup will love it!

The team at Dogs We Trust are amazing. They go out of their way to create an environment that fosters healthy dogs, both physically and socially. The facilities are 5 stars too with kennels and outdoor spaces that could not be more well planned and built. Every dog that we have the pleasure of loving will have the pleasure of spending time at Dogs We Trust. No one else comes close.
