Bamboo came in extremely thin, anorexic with inappetance, and the owner specifically stated she wanted me to feed more food, but not specifically how much. I was concerned for the dog's health but assessed Bamboo as energetic enough with good capillary refill response that I didn't refer her to a veterinarian. Upon trying to feed Bamboo, she had no interest in the very poor quality kibble she was sent, so I added a little canned food as an appetant. She then ate her food heartily, so I attempted to keep her rations up to perhaps get her to gain a little weight. I then proceeded to treat the dog like a queen, and showered her with affection and play, and sent the owners a ton of pictures and video. When Bamboo was picked up, I had just fed her. The owner insisted on immediately giving the dog a large bottle of water before driving home. I was harassed about Bamboo's gastric distress after that six or more times a day - three messages left within a few hours as the first volley - using different platforms on social media, phone calls, email - every single day for weeks afterwards. A reasonable, single contact would have been returned promptly. **In all of these contacts there was absolutely no mention of taking Bamboo to the vet for her upset tummy.** I was concerned about Bamboo's GI episode, but I was more concerned that this person might come put a pipe bomb in my mailbox or something. That's also why it's taken me this long to write a response. I encourage all professionals to be selective in who they work with, as I was genuinely afraid of this person causing my family harm during this episode. God bless you Bamboo, I thought you were a really cool dog (She's probably moved on, she was 13 or 14 at the time this happened.)
