Duffy's Dog Training Center

One of the lead trainers (the owners daughter Heidi) left her dog in her car in the summer until he died. Not sure I’d trust these people with a goldfish. A bunch of the staff will over correct your dog and then brag about hurting them. Speaking from a first person perspective as a former employee who left due to a dogs leg getting broke and then then lying to the owners about how it happened and the extent of the injury at first making them feel as if it would be okay to wait a few days to take him to the vet.

I just want to say a big thank you to Duffy’s Dog Training. When we first got out German Shepherd Kylo, we had NO idea the amount of work we had just signed up for. After just losing one German Shepherd that was very sociable and had never shown any extreme protective instincts, we were in over our heads. Had one incident where I had gotten bitten from Kylo and he was VERY protective especially in our home and vehicles. He would lunge at anyone that he deemed was a threat (which was everyone not in our immediate family). We knew it was a matter of time before he hurt someone and would end up having to be put down. We did some homework and had several referrals to Duffy’s, so took the leap and signed up for the manners program. It has been worth every penny. They do rely on slip collars, prong collars, and electric collars. Prior to beginning training with them my understanding of these training aids was way off and now I understand them much better. They took the time to explain why these worked the way they do, even having to repeat a lot of the instructions so we understood completely and were able to utilize them fully. We have now progressed to search and rescue tracking with Kylo and they continue to impress and exceed expectations. Last night I took Kylo with me to the Scott Co Fair. 2 years ago this wouldn’t have been possible. He walked on a loose leash the entire night, only having to be redirected to my side once when he was smelling something particularly interesting to him. We always put a muzzle on him when in public. This deters most who would want to pet him, still had many people ask to pet and most were told no. I did allow a few people to pet him and he “tolerated” them very well. Only once when I allowed someone to pet him, then several others joined in quickly did he lean against me and grumble very quietly telling me it was too much. It was his way of asking me to make them stop. It was also the only time that he grumbled the entire night. Walking thru very crowded areas, around food, children, rides, and animals and he had no issues. If it wasn’t for Duffy’s he would either be at our home and not allowed to go anywhere with us, or would have hurt someone and have been put down for being a dangerous animal. Can’t thank them enough for what they have helped us to achieve with Kylo.
