Dunetos K9

We were referred to Dunetos k9 by a friend who had purchased a dog and been very happy. With this initial recommendation, we did some additional research and decided to purchase a dog. We paid for the “executive level”, which is supposed to be their top tier level of training for a protection dog. We made payments over the 2 years of “training” for a purchase amount that would purchase us a new mid sized car...... we were given monthly updates on our dog’s progress and felt that things were moving ahead nicely. We made one specific request of the owner though , and it was that he not use our dog for breeding purposes while it was in their care.......We also paid to attend a scheduled course in Florida that they were advertising, that would help train us to work with our dog...... Fast forward to the last few months and we were no longer receiving updates on our dog’s training status, nor confirmation that our payments were being received. We attempted to contact the owners and got no response aside from a cryptic “we’ll give you an update soon.”.... assuming the worst, possibly that something had happened to our dog, we made additional efforts to reach out to the owners with no luck, and then on a hunch, did some internet sleuthing. We found out very quickly that the main owner/trainer, was no longer in the picture and had not been training our dog for at least 2 months.....As part of the contract, we had paid to have our dog brought to us in another state at the completion of his training, and trained in our home for 2 weeks. Now because of present circumstances, we now felt compelled that we had to make arrangements to go to Florida and get our dog. I will say that our dog has a great disposition and has bonded with our family very quickly, but we paid a MAJOR premium for a high level security dog...... and that is not even close to what we received. We picked up a dog that did not have vaccination records, had bilateral eye infections, was mildly undernourished, has had both his ears notched, and scars on his muzzle. At the pick-up, he was dirty and had obvious feces on his coat......we also learned as an aside that our dog was being used as a stud to breed with Dunetos’ females, inspite of our specific request. He obviously has been trained on basic commands, but he will not stay in position when commanded for more than a few moments, does not know how to walk on a lead at the heel position unless he’s forceably kept in line with a prong collar, is afraid to go up, or come down stairs, has not been socialized thoroughly, and is very skittish around other people. We have other family dogs and were initially worried about possible aggression from our “security” dog towards our other dogs; no need to be worried though because he is definitely not the alpha and is quite timid. Long story short, if I had purchased this dog as a puppy, raised him, and then taken him to a local pet store for weekly self-training sessions, I’d be thoroughly happy with my 2 year old loving, beautiful, reasonably well trained German Shepherd who is nothing more than another family dog...... under the circumstances described though, I feel completely ripped off...... I feel that we paid for a new Ferrari, and picked up a high mileage 1990 Corvette! We even paid for a hands on course that was being advertised even at a time that due to specific circumstances known only to the owners, there was no way possible that it was ever going to be held; and no, we were never offered a refund for the amount paid for the course. I would consider legal action seeking to recoup a portion of the sizable amount that we have paid Dunetos K9 for what was supposed to be a highly trained security dog, but under the circumstances, I’ll count myself lucky that we at least got our dog.....I am cynical enough to realize that even if we spent the time and money to pursue legal action, we would never recoup a dime when there’s nothing left for them to give back...... Potential buyer beware!
