Durham Kennels is located on ten wooded acres in beautiful Berea, Kentucky, 30 miles from Lexington, just off I-75. It is owned and operated by trainer Jim Durham. Recommended by vets throughout Central Kentucky, Jim's dog training expertise is drawn from over thirty years of professional experience. Nestled on top of a hill with a gorgeous view, the kennel is surrounded by trees and flowers and is right next to Jim's home, allowing him to give your pet the highest level of care and attention. Because your dog is a beloved family member, choosing a qualified trainer is an important decision. What does the in kennel training consist of?
Durham Kennels’s Board and Train Program is designed for pet owners with busy schedules and those who need the guidance, help and expertise of an experienced trainer. If you choose this option, your dog will stay at the kennel for three weeks. Basic obedience is on leash, on collar training and consists of the following commands: come, sit, down, stay, heel and variations of all of these. Jim will work with your dog several times a day using a method of training that utilizes firmness, repetition, consistency, positive reinforcement, and lots of love. Upon completion of the initial in-kennel training, you will pick your dog up and have the first of six private classes. All family members ages 14 and up are invited and welcomed to attend. A critically important part of your dog’s training, these sessions are designed to teach you how to handle your dog and to ensure that you understand and can properly execute all of the basic obedience commands.

Why does my 10 week old shihtzu go out side and does nothing bring him back in and immediately he potties
This is very common. I recommend crate training as the best option for house-breaking. Give me a call and I will be happy to give you some pointers on how to handle this behavior.

I have nothing but praises to sing about Jim and Durham Kennels. First of all, the facility is incredibly clean; there is not even any 'dog smell' upon entering OR on my dog after pickup, and that's impressive considering all of the dogs Jim cares for!! I boarded my Cane Corso, Lincoln, with Jim for the first time this past week. Lincoln is sort of a special case: he is a power breed with some fear reactivity and lacks confidence in new places. It's always a struggle to find somewhere I truly trust with my dog that will give him the space he needs and still treat him with kindness, while respecting and understanding his genetics and not assuming he's a Golden Retriever type-of-guy. Jim never once made me feel bad for Lincoln's temperment (something I've experienced with past boarding experiences elsewhere) and I never questioned if Lincoln wouldn't be safe and cared for after dropping him off. Even though I knew I could, I didn't even feel the need to call and check in on him while I was out of town, which says a lot coming from a helicopter dog-mom! Lastly, Jim is also an incredibly kind, transparent and down-to-earth guy. Even though Lincoln was a huge chicken during his stay with Jim, I could tell Jim genuinely loved him. He welcomed him back for future stays and mentioned how he hopes they can be friends in the future. ❤️ Despite Lincoln's dramatics, he was all tail wags and smiles once we made it home, so I know my sensitive giant was treated wonderfully. I'm incredibly happy with my service from Durham Kennels. Thank you, Jim!!!! Lincoln says "thank you", too! ☺️
Jim is Awesome and very knowledgeable. I have boarded my pups here and she was well taken care of. Anytime I can't bring my pups with, she will be coming here. Very good prices w/ Boarding and training. He specializes with Shephards and have been bugging my Father to get his shephard trained here. Thank you!
