Dynamite Dog Training

Last summer I took my dog to aTaming Tarzan course at Peggy Adams Animal shelter. The course was held in an outdoor pavilion. Upon arrival there were childrens preschool dividers separating the dogs, 9 dogs. This was not a good solution. They attempted to put my 95lb dog and I in the middle of the pavilion with only 3 sides. When that didn't go well, they seemed very bothered that we had to rearrange the dogs to accommodate us. This is the description of the class. "This reactive dog training course is a specialized training program designed to help dogs who exhibit reactive behavior, such as excessive barking, lunging, or growling in response to specific triggers. This class employs positive reinforcement techniques to teach dogs alternative." My dog is adopted and leash aggressive with other dogs. This setup is not condusive to dogs with actually aggression. We got very little individual instruction. Throwing food on the ground is the main technique used to distract your dog. My dog is VERY good motivated but was so overwhelmed she didn't care about hotdogs. The second class she expected us to start walking our dogs past each other. That was definitely NOT happening for at least 3 of the 8 dogs. When Jamie came to check in with us and I told her that my dog was struggling with this food on ground distraction technique. She told me that I needed to put my dog on medication! I'd literally spoken to this woman 3 times for less than 10 total. There an on boarding zoom call. The zoom call with 8 pet guardians was completely unproductive and Jamie clearly hadn't actually listened to what the dogs actual issues were. She didn't even suggest individual training. Just straight to medicating my dog. My dog is not aggressive in general. She lives with a kitten. I was so shocked that this was her best advice for me. I wrote to Peggy Adams and told them that the class wasn't a good fit for my dog. They graciously refunded the entire amount of the class. If your dog has true aggression issues with other dogs I wouldn't suggest that you take this class or any class from this lady.
