Evansville Obedience Club

A couple years ago I was pregnant and was concerned that my anxious dog needed some training, and I reached out and started beginner classes here. I had adopted my dog from his foster home a few years prior. He was in a foster home because his previous home was abusive, and he clearly had some trauma based on his behavior, but he is a good dog. Everything went okay with training until I was made to use a prong collar. My dog panicked and cried out when I tightened it, and I freaked out. I was advised to continue using the prong collar, and every time I tightened it, my dog yelped and panicked. The trainer continued to push me to use the prong collar despite my protests. When I told her that he had been abused, she responded that her dogs had been abused and they were fine with the prong collars. I left that week's training in tears and never went back. My dog started medication for his anxiety and is thriving. He is fantastic with both of my kids and our puppy that we have since adopted, and I am so glad that I stood up for him.
