I wish I would have found Michael sooner. I had struggled getting my dog to calm down and tune in to me as well as had difficulty with off leash recall. In just a few sessions, Michael gave me simple drills to do that helped improve my dogs behavior. My dog now has a reliable recall, heels and can go off leash on hikes and is a retrieving machine. I would recommend this trainer to anyone that is looking for off leash reliability. Michael is an extremely positive person and was a pleasure to work with.

Our 1.5 year-old pointer mix, Finn, had a handful of specific behaviors that we wanted to address. After our first phone consultation with Michael, we know we’d found the perfect trainer. He listened to everything we wanted to work on, helped explain the dog psychology behind it, and in our subsequent sessions, he tackled every issue we wanted to. We were absolutely blown away by the progress that Finn had made in just a handful of weeks, and were so grateful that Michael was just a phone call or text away throughout the course of our training! We have gained total confidence in having Finn off leash anywhere. Wish we could give this experience 6 stars. All of our future dogs will be coming back to Front Range Dog Training!

Our 1 year old vizsla, Sneaker, is a goofy, energetic, sometimes headstrong, boy who had been in treat training and positive reinforcement puppy classes off and on for his first year. Those classes were great, but at 1 yo Sneaker started getting restless, more energized, and more amped on walks. If we didn’t have treats with us, there was no guarantee that he’d listen when we called him off a rabbit, squirrel, or other dog without pulling us around first. Michael was highly recommended by Boulder Doggie Adventures and neighbors as a way to deepen our general training and master off leash training as well. We wanted to have a better way of communicating with Sneaker and build a deeper trust and understanding of each other. Michael provided that!
The work is hard, but Michael does a great job of showing you what to do, checking in between sessions, and trouble shooting to get the most success for you and your dog. Michael sets YOU and your dog up for success. Our training consisted mostly of training the humans on the e collar and what cues Sneaker needed from us to know we were the leaders of the pack. We did a lot of leash work, sit, stay, heeling, recall on leash over 6 weeks before we moved up to fully off leash with 100% recall. And when I say 100% recall, I mean calling him once and mid romp with other dogs from 80 yards he whips around and full-speed runs back to me. I know for sure that Sneaker would rather be with our family than be with other dogs, elk, rabbits, or even prairie dogs!
You will use an e collar in training. We had never used one before and now love it. Our boy is always excited when he sees the collar because he knows we’re going to work, play and have fun together. I think you hear so much that there’s one way to train, positive reinforcement, and that’s it. Treat training is such a great tool, and so is the e collar. I’m all for using appropriate tools to build better communication and greater trust between you and your dog.
Michael is a great trainer who really knows his dog and human psychology. We can’t imagine a better guide for building such a strong relationship with our dog.

Michael @ Front Range Dog Training is simply amazing. Our 10 month old Golden Doodle Stanley was in need of puppy training. Stanley was pulling on walks, not listening when we called him & all the other usual puppy stuff. We were referred to Michael by a neighbor as their Doodle is so well trained. Within 4 sessions we saw a complete turn around. Stanley is now walking off leash (Boulder tag) for almost 2 miles, hiking & coming when we call him. Everytime we are on a walk people stop us to pet him and can't believe he is only 10 months old. We have been asked by so many people for Michael's number! You won't be disappointed if you go with Front Range Dog Training! We are forever grateful we met Michael.
