Full Contact K9

We got our female Czech GSD puppy Cora this past spring. As first time dog owners who had been researching and planning to get a working line shepherd for a couple of years, we knew that we would need significant professional training for such an intelligent and driven dog. Evan advised us to begin training when Cora was about 10 weeks old, and we are so glad we did. It is apparent that Evan truly understands these dogs and the most effective methods for training. He has been integral to teaching us how to train Cora, especially given her sassy but sweet personality. She is now seven months old and has completed her basic obedience lessons. She has come a long way and is doing very well. We are looking forward to starting additional training with Evan soon.

When we first came to Full Contact K9, we had already exhausted three different training programs from start to finish and had not seen a change in our dogs reactivity. To be truthful after one of her training programs (a 3 month program with a leading dog training company across the US) her reactivity got worse not better. We were at the end of our ropes as we love our dog, but her world was getting smaller and smaller. We met Evan for the first time for our evaluation and our pup did not disappoint, she showed her reactivity without hesitation and on a scale of 1-10, she was a solid 15! Evan didn’t back down from the challenge and we started work. The approach was not just a set of exercises, it was one where we learned to build trust and a relationship with our dog. The training gave us the tools to learn about our dog, about what she needed, and how to best respond to her needs. By the end of our sessions our pup had shown such significant improvement that we can now walk her in our neighborhood and in public parks knowing how to respond to her specific reactions and allowing her to explore on her terms; safely. An incident occurred at our house where one of our children was endangered. Evan helped us through a difficult time. We had never owned a German Shepherd. Evan walked us through the overall process and provided several dog choices based on the needs of our family. That’s how we found Derry. Within a couple of weeks, he was in our home and part of our family. Evan helped us all become more comfortable with one another with patient handler training. Evan was always accessible and ready and willing to help with any questions (I would know – I texted him several times a day for weeks!).
