Hi J J, I'm so sorry you were so disappointed in your first day of Puppy class! I promise you that Ericka is a very experienced dog trainer and most definitely knows the difference between an Aussie and a Border Collie. ;) She probably made a guess of his breed at a quick glance and didn't look at the roster, and Aussies and Border Collies look very similar at the fluffy-puppy stage, especially as more and more owners and breeders are choosing not to dock tails. It's very normal for puppies to be shy on their first day of class (just like little kids), and I am sorry the other puppy scared yours. As much as we try to prevent it to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy all the time, puppies are fast and it does happen occasionally (just like kids on a playground ... you can supervise closely, and still, someone will accidentally do something rude). If you ever feel that a situation is unsafe for your puppy (or adult dog), PLEASE feel empowered to speak up and tell your instructor, or step in front of your dog and prevent it from happening in the moment. I am positive that Ericka did not label your puppy as "aggressive," because that is just not something we do - ever - with puppies. Period. If a puppy acts defensively in class, it's because they're overwhelmed or scared - not aggressive. That's like accusing a 4 year old of being "violent..." not really a thing that happens commonly. What Ericka DID do, is suggest that since it was your pup's first day, and he had been at the vet for his vaccine earlier that day and had already had a hard day, that he might want to sit out playtime for his first class and just get acclimated at his pace. This was suggested for your pup's own comfort, not because she was worried about anyone else's safety around your pup. At any rate, It is never our wish for an animal or human to be made uncomfortable by our services; indeed, we spend a great deal of time and effort and emotional investment making sure that humans and their pets leave our care MORE comfortable than when they arrived, and clearly we weren't able to meet our standards in your case. I completely understand that not every service will be a good fit for every customer and it seems that the style of our Puppy Kindergarten made you and your pup uncomfortable and for that I apologize. I will be refunding your full Puppy Kindergarten class fee and I hope you can find a different class that will fit your needs better. If you would like a referral to a different trainer, please let me know - there are several talented ones in the area I'd be happy to refer you to.
