How do you get your dog to obey your commands? One of the things that makes our K9 training different is that we not only train your dog but we also show you how YOU can continue to train your dog if you want to take your dog's training a step further. We train your dog how to walk on a leash and we also have off-leash training. (Watch some of our videos on facebook and you'll see actual examples of doggie students practicing their skills.) We also train your dog how to behave when in the presence of other dogs. Imagine walking in a park and you come across another dog. It's important for your dog to have the discipline and understanding of how to behave. And it's important for you to know how to stay in control of the situation. We teach you that as well. This gets into what is sometimes called, "Reactive Dog Training". How does your dog react when in different situations? We go over this and repetition is important. What people have asked about this business.
Are your dog trainers Toledo affordable?
Yes, we think so! All of our dog training programs are customized based on the goals of the owner. And some owners want to be more involved with the training process than others and we take factors such as that into consideration as well so your dog gets the training it needs and built around your objectives. And our first step is always a training evaluation, which is free. So, contact us and get your K9 scheduled!
What dog breed is best for me, and how can I find out which breed is best for me?
This is very important because a lot of the issues we see have at least something do to with the client/family having a dog that doesn’t fit their lifestyle. The best way to figure this out is if you go to a breeder research the breed extensively and ask the breeder a lot of questions about the dogs energy/size/temperament, etc. If you plan on rescuing make sure if they know the breed, you do a lot of research on the breed/mix. Also ask the rescue/shelter as many questions as you can, and learn as much as you can about the dog before adopting.
There are hundreds of ways to train a dog, each one of them having some positives and negatives. We use a very balanced approach that revolves around clear communication with your dog. Specifically getting his/her attention in all levels of distractions.
Yes, we offer quick and reliable puppy training services. Don’t hesitate to call us today and we’ll get your puppy the training it deserves. We can start training puppies as early as 8 weeks old. For adult obedience and behavior modification programs, the youngest we can start is 4 months.
This is a very common question, but harder to answer than most people think. We personalize every program we offer to every person, so we don’t have set prices that give each dog the same experience or results. We need to meet you and your dog in order to make sure the program you want/need fits you best!
Some important things to ask your trainer are; How much time commitment should I have? How long have you been training dogs? What methods do you use? MOST important, ask your trainer for before and after videos of dogs in various settings, outside, inside, stores, etc.
Absolutely! Every single dog should be trained. Some more than others for sure, but there is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t need training, except a dog that is already trained!
We use a special type of e-collar. And before it's placed on any dog we put the collar in the hand of the dog owner so they know exactly what it feels like. When aplied correctly it feels like a rubbing motion Most are surprised how gentle it is.
Do you sell german shepherd puppies? Or know someone not outrageous on price?
No, we do not sell dogs and unfortunately, we don't know of anyone selling German Shepherds. You might want to check with local animal shelters and see what they have. Shelter dogs often times turn out to be the very best pets and you can end up saving a lot of money going that route, as well.
It depends on what program you do. All the trainers are great. Well worth the money.

Jazzy, all of our training is customized based on the specific goals of the dog owner. That's why our first step is always a Training Evaluation (which is free). This gives one of our Trainers a chance to meet your dog in person and you can get all of your questions answered as well. (They cover a lot of info so most people have quite a few.) You can contact us right on our website (that's the fastest way our Office Manager will see it) and we'll contact you and set up a time.

Community answer · Jamie Vanderbilt · 2019-09-21
Jamie Vanderbilt is correct. We have 3 different boarding programs but we do not have a dog daycare at this time. You can find out more info at https://www.glasscityk9.com/dog-boarding
If you have additional questions, you can go to our website and fill out the Free Dog Training Evaluation form. We'd be happy to set up a time so you can check out our facility.
No, it's never too late. (Since so many people ask this question, we've adapted it and made it our slogan, which is: "Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?") All dogs of any age can be trained. The key is to help the dog understand what is expected and to be very clear and specific about that. We work with all of our dog owners on this as well as many other points and we show them exactly what to do and what to say so their dog understands what is expected. When the processes are properly used, even older dogs respond very well and are able to be trained. We guarantee those results.

Reactive behavior means that a dog over-reacts to something. It could be when they see another dog, a stranger, etc. This is usually caused by some underlying fear. And dogs that have this type of behavior can be trained - we do it all the time! Also, when a dog goes through training, their confidence increases! The opposite of fear is confidence so as they gain more confidence their fear goes away. So they start to get even faster results from their training. They actually feel better about themselves and they even become more playful. And if they do more advanced training, like learning "tricks", their confidence increases even more and their confidence increases even further! So if you have a dog with reactive behavior, they can even get back the playfulness they had as a puppy!
We train any and all dogs as far as behavioral training. A "service dog" is a dog that has been trained to assist a person who has a disability. Training a dog to function as a service dog is a different type of training. So to be specific, we do NOT train dogs to work as service dogs.

Kona spent 2 weeks in his care during her board and train and still over a year after her training session we have communication with Hans. He is always willing to provided support and guidance when we have question regarding kona. He has even met us outside of his work hours at the metro parks for a training session. Coming up we are going to board our girl while we are on vacation and have requested Hans and I know she will be in good care with him! Kona has seen Hans many times after her board and train and she gets so excited to see him, you can tell over her two weeks they created a great, loving, and trusting bond. I can not say enough good things about Hans and Glass City k9 I would recommend this place to everyone. I take comfort in knowing Kona is in such good hands with Hans.

Right from the start he treated our dog Kona like she was one of his own, always making sure she was comfortable, happy and always having fun. He always kept us updated on her progress by sending pictures and videos explaining what was going on and what she was learning. You can see the bond that Kona and Hans created every time Kona saw him she got super happy and excited. Even a year after Kona’s 2 week board and train Hans reached out regularly asking about how she is doing and if we need any help with anything. I will always recommend Hans and Glass City K9 to any one who is looking for fantastic training.

We took our 3.5 year old reactive dog to GCK9 and had Hans as our trainer. Not only did Hans form a great bond with our dog (who still gets excited when we say Hans’ name), our dogs behavior and reactivity has increased tenfold. It’s almost like we dropped one dog off and received a totally new and transformed guy! Hans (and the whole team at GCK9) gave us a second chance with our dog, and we are forever grateful. I would 100% send my dog back to Hans because I know he will be taken care of, and I would send any future dogs here. I have recommended people to the training programs, as well. I cannot speak highly enough of Hans, Ron, and all the other trainers that helped us! We are forever customers!
The first picture here is a picture of our dog on his “place” which was something that we learned at GCK9. Our dog loves his bed/place and chooses to be there most of the day!
The second picture is one of the various outings we have been able to take through Toledo Metroparks, and our dog is exhibiting his “stand” command that we learned at GCK9. A special note, our dog has serious arthritis and was not able to participate in all the commands comfortably. Hans recognized this almost immediately and tailored training and commands to what our dog was able to do.

My dog Banjo and I just made our move out to Alaska! Glass City K-9 gave the go ahead for him to start board and train when he was just under 6 months so that he could get the training he needed before we left. Yesterday we went out to Castner Glacier and it AMAZED me at how far he has come even at just 7 months old! Hans sent me video and text updates at least every other day of Banjo's progress. Because of Hans, Banjo is better than I could have ever imagined, especially for how young he is. I would recommend my family and friends to this company and Hans!
