How do you get your dog to obey your commands? One of the things that makes our K9 training different is that we not only train your dog but we also show you how YOU can continue to train your dog if you want to take your dog's training a step further. We train your dog how to walk on a leash and we also have off-leash training. (Watch some of our videos on facebook and you'll see actual examples of doggie students practicing their skills.) We also train your dog how to behave when in the presence of other dogs. Imagine walking in a park and you come across another dog. It's important for your dog to have the discipline and understanding of how to behave. And it's important for you to know how to stay in control of the situation. We teach you that as well. This gets into what is sometimes called, "Reactive Dog Training". How does your dog react when in different situations? We go over this and repetition is important. Question on Google
What dog breed is best for me, and how can I find out which breed is best for me?

This is very important because a lot of the issues we see have at least something do to with the client/family having a dog that doesn’t fit their lifestyle. The best way to figure this out is if you go to a breeder research the breed extensively and ask the breeder a lot of questions about the dogs energy/size/temperament, etc. If you plan on rescuing make sure if they know the breed, you do a lot of research on the breed/mix. Also ask the rescue/shelter as many questions as you can, and learn as much as you can about the dog before adopting.

Question on Google
What dog training method is best?

There are hundreds of ways to train a dog, each one of them having some positives and negatives. We use a very balanced approach that revolves around clear communication with your dog. Specifically getting his/her attention in all levels of distractions.

Question on Google
Is it ever too late to train a dog?

It is NEVER too late to train a dog. Older dogs can sometimes have harder habits to fix just due to age, but all dogs CAN learn new tricks!

Question on Google
What is the youngest you can train a dog?

Yes, we offer quick and reliable puppy training services. Don’t hesitate to call us today and we’ll get your puppy the training it deserves. We can start training puppies as early as 8 weeks old. For adult obedience and behavior modification programs, the youngest we can start is 4 months.

Question on Google
What does dog training typically cost?

This is a very common question, but harder to answer than most people think. We personalize every program we offer to every person, so we don’t have set prices that give each dog the same experience or results. We need to meet you and your dog in order to make sure the program you want/need fits you best!

Question on Google
What questions should I ask my trainer?

Some important things to ask your trainer are; How much time commitment should I have? How long have you been training dogs? What methods do you use? MOST important, ask your trainer for before and after videos of dogs in various settings, outside, inside, stores, etc.

Question on Google
Is training my dog worth it?

Absolutely! Every single dog should be trained. Some more than others for sure, but there is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t need training, except a dog that is already trained!

Question on Google
Do they use e-collars or correction collars?

Yes it is an e collar.

Community answer · Brittany Toedter · 2021-09-21

We use a special type of e-collar. And before it's placed on any dog we put the collar in the hand of the dog owner so they know exactly what it feels like. When aplied correctly it feels like a rubbing motion Most are surprised how gentle it is.

Question on Google
Do you sell german shepherd puppies? Or know someone not outrageous on price?

No, we do not sell dogs and unfortunately, we don't know of anyone selling German Shepherds. You might want to check with local animal shelters and see what they have. Shelter dogs often times turn out to be the very best pets and you can end up saving a lot of money going that route, as well.

Question on Google
How much does it cost?

It depends on what program you do. All the trainers are great. Well worth the money.

Community answer · Troy Tucker · 2019-09-21

Jazzy, all of our training is customized based on the specific goals of the dog owner. That's why our first step is always a Training Evaluation (which is free). This gives one of our Trainers a chance to meet your dog in person and you can get all of your questions answered as well. (They cover a lot of info so most people have quite a few.) You can contact us right on our website (that's the fastest way our Office Manager will see it) and we'll contact you and set up a time.

You can find out more info at https://www.glasscityk9.com/dog-boarding If you have additional questions, you can go to our website and fill out the Free Dog Training Evaluation form. Question on Google
Is it ever too late to start training a dog?

No, it's never too late. (Since so many people ask this question, we've adapted it and made it our slogan, which is: "Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?") All dogs of any age can be trained. The key is to help the dog understand what is expected and to be very clear and specific about that. We work with all of our dog owners on this as well as many other points and we show them exactly what to do and what to say so their dog understands what is expected. When the processes are properly used, even older dogs respond very well and are able to be trained. We guarantee those results.

Question on Google
What is reactive dog behavior?

Reactive behavior means that a dog over-reacts to something. It could be when they see another dog, a stranger, etc. This is usually caused by some underlying fear. And dogs that have this type of behavior can be trained - we do it all the time! Also, when a dog goes through training, their confidence increases! The opposite of fear is confidence so as they gain more confidence their fear goes away. So they start to get even faster results from their training. They actually feel better about themselves and they even become more playful. And if they do more advanced training, like learning "tricks", their confidence increases even more and their confidence increases even further! So if you have a dog with reactive behavior, they can even get back the playfulness they had as a puppy!

Question on Google
Do you train service dogs?

Yes they do

Community answer · David · 2019-09-21

We train any and all dogs as far as behavioral training. A "service dog" is a dog that has been trained to assist a person who has a disability. Training a dog to function as a service dog is a different type of training. So to be specific, we do NOT train dogs to work as service dogs.

I’m still a client here and I seriously LOVE these guys! My 3-year-old Aussie, Blue, had never done any training and started showing some aggressive behaviors. I had zero clue where to even start, but the trainers here have taught me so much — I finally feel like I understand my dog and what he needs. Blue did a 3-week board and train (which they even extended to 4 weeks at no extra charge!) and the results were incredible. My dog who used to get nervous and reactive around people and other dogs is now calmly playing with 7+ dogs and walking through Lowe’s like a total pro, not phased by anything around him. It’s not a “send your dog away and they come back perfect” kind of thing — you definitely have to keep up with the training at home (and for life!) — but it’s been worth every single dollar and friends and family are incredibly impressed by this new dog I have ;) I’m still doing weekly lessons and continuing to see progress every week. The staff is amazing — huge shout-out to Michelle, Ron, and Junior for being so patient, kind, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Couldn’t recommend this place more! 🐾💙

Training with Glass City K9 has been the best investment that we have made in our lives and in our dog. To say that this program has been life-changing is an understatement. Our dog was a young, fearful basset hound with the typical lack of impulse control when we began the training. After the two week board and train and six months of adhering to the structure, we’ve seen him blossom. He has self-confidence and has become a lot braver in new situations because he trusts us. I have become a more confident dog owner as well, and it is rewarding validation to hear strangers comment on how well behaved he is (not jumping to greet people, sitting and letting runners pass us on the sidewalk, calmly greeting kids, etc.). Glass City K9 has given me the greatest gift, which is that my dog and I are a unified team. I’ve never had a stronger bond with a dog and I give all credit to this program.

Buckle up, dear reader, because I was an English major and I write stories. Short stories are harder to write than long ones. I promise that my review will be worth your time if you are seriously considering GCK9 for your dog. I chose the "Silver Plan." Essentially, the trainers train us, the owners, to train our own dogs. We are paying for them to pass on their expertise. Keep in mind that if, as an owner, one does not FOLLOW THROUGH with the plan as given by the trainers, the results will not be optimal. I am, by profession, a teacher. So when I am told to specifically follow a lesson plan with my dog every week, I follow it. I have a husky. I'm told they don't like to listen. When I adopted her (rescue), she was pulling me so hard on the leash that I was falling over onto the pavement. She caused me to wreck a perfectly good pair of Silver jeans, and she tore my belly button piercing (it never healed... it hurt a LOT... I finally gave up and took it out). I was not a happy dog mom. I tried positive "treat training" and she learned every command quickly but would only comply if offered a treat. Well, by week three with GCK9, my girl was stopping at street intersections without even being prompted. Why? Because I trained her to do so because I didn't want her to get smoked by a car. This wasn't even part of GCK9's lesson plans; I kinda just added it in because it naturally followed with what I was being told to train her to do. I LISTENED TO WHAT THE TRAINER SAID AND I DID EXACTLY THAT, then when it all worked and my girl was so proficient she was getting bored, I did some add ons. Folks, know this: YOU WILL GET OUT OF THIS PROGRAM NOT WHAT YOU PAID INTO IT, BUT WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT. As for the e-collar, if you're that worried about it, Google "shock collar vs e-collar" and start there. I can put my girl's e-collar in my hand at the level at which I typically train her (which is super low) and I can tell you this: My physical therapist has turned up the tens machine on me WAY higher than I've probably ever turned up the e-collar on my pup, and I wasn't wearing a double coat to buffer it... and I've never been hurt by a tens machine. At the current stage, I only need to actually use her e-collar about 50% of the time. She just knows what she is supposed to do, and she does it. Admittedly there has been one miscommunication during the course of the training, but GCK9 made immediate plans to compensate for the issue and had the foresight to predict my expectations for the remainder of the training. It was like they read my mind. Sometimes crap happens that is beyond the control of the business, and I'm beyond the point in my life where I'd feel compelled to create drama. Some things just ain't that serious. At the end of the day, folks, so far I have to say that I believe that I have gotten more value out of this training than my pup has. I could have just done the "easier" Board and Train, but I am infinitely thankful that I chose to put in the hard work myself. Here is why: In a world where I have had to stop paying attention to the news because I feel as if everything has spun into such utter chaos that it has caused me to up my meds and increase the number of mental health therapy sessions I have every month (depression and GAD), training my beautiful dog has given me a sense of purpose and made me feel as if there is something among the chaos that I can actually control. I now wish that I'd have trained a dog before I'd had human children, because it would have made me a more patient, loving, and firm disciplinarian. My 9-YO son is benefitting because he is following my lead and also taking responsibility for our dog's training, which is teaching HIM to be a better human being. If you do it right, your dog won't be the only one to change in a positive way; YOU will as well. I promise that if you approach GCK9 with the right intention, attitude, and work ethic, you will have zero regrets. PS: Shout out to Junior! We love him! (The humans in our house anyway... Khaleesi dog thinks he's a jerk. lol!)
