When I first adopted my Australian Shepherd, I thought that my experience with dogs, even living in a multi-dog home, had prepared me for the challenges that lay ahead. I applied my experiences to training my dog, and even went to a local obedience class for several months. The end result after 18 months was a dog that would do tricks for food, but showed little true obedience or respect. In the fall of 2016, my wife introduced me to Brian Kilcommons. We spoke over the phone, explained our situation, and the date was set for a face to face interview. It turned out that the interview was also our first training session. Everything became a teachable moment, from leash walking to lying by my side while we talked at a table in his home. On the very first day, he provided me with the tools to get started on my own. After meeting with Brian only 4 times over 2 months, my relationship with my dog significantly improved. Previously stressful activities are now much more fun. He is still very food motivated, but now is almost equally receptive to praise. I have been able to use what I learned from Brian to train a second dog, as well as assist family members with their own dog issues. From the outside, it is easy to see that Brian is an exceptional dog trainer and handler. What you will learn after one or two personal training sessions is that Brian is also a good people trainer.
