Green Dog Training

I had the pleasure of working with Green Dog, through a rescue where I am a volunteer. A few of our dogs stayed with them, because they needed special care when being spayed/neutered, and also during heartworm treatment. Because of the breadth of Green Dog’s experience with dog training and boarding, they provided the attention to detail that was needed with medication and general all around care. I always knew the dogs were in good hands. At times they went above and beyond what I would have expected. Also, as an added perk, they worked on some basic training with the dogs, to help make the dog better behaved for adoption.

Green Dog Training has been an amazing experience for our Golden Doodle. She was hyper and out of sorts before training at Green Dog. Kelly did such great job with her that she is now much calmer and follows commands. She had a lot of trouble with house training, but now only does when she is really excited or nervous. We also take our dogs to Green Dog for boarding and they come back to us happy and smelling clean! We are extremely appreciative for their kindness and love for our pets. 🥰. I wholeheartedly recommend Green Dog training and boarding.

NOW you respond **7** yrs later with zero acknowledgement of the issues?! YIKES 2 dogs, w/ previous dog training experience. I reached out in hopes of professional guidance. First, I called and left a message on Sat. I didn't anticipate a call back until Mon, so I found their FB page and sent a very long message. It was my hopes that, prior to calling me, they would read the message and have a clear understanding of what to anticipate. I tried to be as detailed as possible regarding my dogs, their history, their experience, and what I identified to be issues. I received an automated response that I would likely get a reply within a day. I received a call on Mon. The call from Carl was very brief since I got sick. I told him about my FB message. He admitted that Kelly handles FB messaging, but that he'll go ahead and have Kelly respond to me there. After hanging up, I sent a thank you note via FB for giving me a call. I received another automated reply that I would receive a response within the day. I did not receive a response that day or the next morning. I called the next afternoon. I had a 20 minute talk with Carl. He was nice, listened attentively, and asked questions. He again apologized that I did not receive a response, but would help me in the meantime. I summarized my concern (socialization). I was advised to consider private lessons, $500, 5 weeks, 1x/wk. Carl mentioned the lessons were probably my best bet so that I could be trained how to handle my dogs in such anxiety-inducing situations. I was notified a consultation was free and would take between 30-45 minutes. I was asked to bring vaccination records and treats as they train on a "lure" system (using treats to entice dogs to do the good behaviors). I scheduled for today, July 5th, for a 2:30 pm appointment. Today, I called 3 hours (11:30 am) before my appointment to confirm. The call wasn't answered so I left a voicemail. I did not get a call back. The consultation lasted less than 10 min. While clean office, lots of barking could be heard which immediately put my dogs on alert. She asked me why I brought my dogs. I'm thinking calls and FB messages, as well as communication between Kelly and Carl should have taken place so there shouldn't be more I need to say. I explained anyway. During consultation, Bella normally whines for people to pet her and thus I was very alarmed when both of my dogs were very shy towards Kelly. Neither were enticed by her treats either. I was rather surprised we were leaving the dogs leashed for socialization evaluation as other trainers warned me of leash aggression. She said that it is only sometimes true and that a leash can actually be calming because it lets them know I am there. The first dog she brought in immediately began barking. Hope returned the barks. My dogs ducked behind me until Bella tried to venture forth to greet. Bella returned to behind me when she reached end of her leash. She swapped the dog out for a quieter one. My dogs are already stressed out. Bella tried to greet the next dog, which barked at her approach and ducked behind Kelly. Those dogs were the "assessment" of my dogs' socialization. We then proceeded to show what commands my dogs know. After I tried to reassure them while the barking could still be heard, we went through sit, stay, down, come, look, touch, and off. They struggled with the distraction, which Kelly attributed to poor behavior on their part. After that, I was advised private lessons would be my best bet (already knew that), but to do basic obedience training for the same skills my dogs demonstrated (except heel as we didn't try to show her that in an office) but "not well." I was told distractions would be added after, but that they "needed a solid foundation first." Frustrated by the two different messages I am getting between Kelly and Carl, Kelly relied on her authority "as the owner" about how they do things there. I thanked her for her time, but it was a complete waste of mine.
