Guiding Canines

Guiding Canines was recommended to me after I had spent quite a bit of time searching for the best dog boarding options in the area and touring several of the larger “doggie daycare” facilities that left me feeling uneasy. I wasn’t looking for a boarding facility centered around group play with other dogs. Instead, I wanted my dog to have quality time with people while I was out of the country for a week. Val and Caleb were absolutely wonderful with her. They sent us daily photos and videos, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. It was obvious that she was happy, comfortable, and genuinely enjoying her time with them. I highly recommend Guiding Canines to anyone looking for a more personalized and structured boarding experience. We will absolutely be using them again!

When we got our first puppy, we didn't live near Val, she still helped us get through some tough initial training while working with us virtually. We got through crate training, potty training, basic recall, and tethering. The huge thing Val helped with was keeping us calm as new puppy parents. Tethering a puppy or crating can seem hard at first but Val always reassured us that we were doing something hard but we were doing the right thing or adjusted and corrected us to be fair and clear with our puppy. She also took the time to explain dog socialization and helped give us ideas for safely exposing our unvaccinated puppy. The result is a very calm and non reactive dog. We couldn't have done it with out the Val and at Guiding Cainines!

We recently adopted a 2-year old Pointer-Great Pyrenees mix from Anderson County Paws. Rhetta is a very sweet dog but had some serious behavioral issues. She was taking items from the kitchen counter and from our bedrooms. She destroyed 2 television remotes and my eyeglasses. Due to her prey drive she was jumping into bushes from our deck to chase lizards. She was constantly barking at animals and people she saw from our backyard and den. We needed help! We now have a much better behaved dog after a month-long board and train at Guiding Canines with Val and Caleb. She no longer jumps into bushes, steals items from the kitchen and bedrooms or barks constantly at other animals and people. She walks well on a leash in our neighborhood. During her month-long training at Guiding Canines we had daily contact with Val and Caleb from pictures and videos sent to us from various training sights like parks and retail stores. Val and Caleb came to our home, more than once, to train us on how to use the e-collar and how to correctly walk her on a leash. We learned how to reinforce what Rhetta had learned while at Guiding Canines. I’m now able to walk her in our neighborhood with no concerns about her behavior towards other animals or people. Rhetta’s board and train came with the needed collars, a leash, cot and treat bag. She returned home freshly bathed with a nail trim. If you have a dog with behavioral issues we highly recommend Guiding Canines. Val and Caleb are easy to work with and will always answer any and all questions you may have. Also, we now have 2 new wonderful friends in Anderson County!
