We had an amazing experience with Leo’s board and train. He came back with lifetime skills and a solid foundation for future success. I also learned so much from the trainer, John—from proper techniques to the correct way to use the tools Leo needs to succeed. Throughout the process, I was sent videos demonstrating the training methods, and once Leo completed his program, we had informative sessions that taught us how to properly handle and control him at home. John and his team truly care and take the time to educate both the dog and the owner. I highly recommend John and his team if you’re looking for professional, knowledgeable trainers you can trust with your precious pet.

Last Christmas, my husband & I brought home two 9lbs male British Labrador puppies. The helpless little fluffballs quickly grew to be 70lbs tornadoes of chaos that were deeply bonded to us and eachother. While they did not have any issues with typical littermate syndrome or basic obedience, they were highly territorial and protective of us and our home. While they were wonderful with our family, they were highly suspicious and unfriendly to other dogs and people. We had complex expectations of our dogs.. we needed them to live in a Manhattan apartment all week long and be city dogs in every sense of the word- friendly to people and other dogs on the street, be good in a dog run, stay home alone while we are at work, go for walks with a dog walker without being aggressive. During the weekend, we needed them to be country dogs: protect our country home from wildlife, go hiking , swimming and run off leash. This was a tall order for any dog , and having 2 high energy, high drive male littermates made it even more challenging. We knew we needed help. After a lot of online research, we found John Soares and based on the amazing reviews, decided to meet with him. From the moment we met John and saw how he engaged with our pups, we knew he was the man for the job. He was the first person our dogs didn’t bark at even once at the first meeting and his understanding of their behavior, approach to training and views on how owners need to be trained alongside their animals blew us away. Our pups did a board and train with John and his team for 4 weeks for basic obedience. We got regular updates, videos and pictures and they even took care of food and medication being administered to our specifications. We got back our puppies at the end of training and to our delight, the training had made them more confident, calm and independent without impacting their goofy personalities, love for us or their playful nature. Now, they are well adjusted to city and country life. They certainly still challenge us as teenagers will, but are significantly better with people, do very well in dog runs, and thrive in the chaos of NYC as much as in the silence of the woods in the country. John and his team have trained them to be confident, calm dogs that adapt to their environment. They play with eachother respectfully, love their cat brother, avoid confrontation and act as a team even when other dogs provoke them in dog runs. As 2 large breed unneutered males living in a small NYC apartment, we have seen none of the bad behavior we hear so many horror stories about - and we have John to thank for that. We are so grateful to John and his team for caring for our boys and training them to be such amazing companions- would recommend them unreservedly!

I am beyond grateful for John at Happy Dogs boarding and training. My dog, Rapunzel, stayed with them for a full month, and the care, love, and dedication they showed her brought me so much peace. Being away from her that long was hard, but they sent regular videos and updates that truly eased my heart. I could see her progress, her confidence growing, and her little tail wagging every time they worked with her. When she came home, she was calmer, happier, and so much more responsive. It’s like she bloomed. You can tell John and his team don’t just “train dogs” — they truly connect with them and treat them like family. I’m forever thankful for the time, patience, and heart they poured into my girl. If you want someone who will love your dog like their own and deliver real, meaningful results, John is the trainer you want. Absolutely the best decision I made for my pup. 🐾❤️

Otis and I are very fortunate to have discovered Happy Dogs Boarding and Training. Otis is my 3 year-old very active and smart Australian Shepherd. Working with John has been a very rewarding experience as he is extremely knowledgeable, patient and genuinely concerned about your dog. It is apparent that he is good at what he does because he loves what he does. During the weeks Otis was in individual training, I received a number of videos showing his progress. That was very helpful then and even more so now that I too am receiving instruction. That has been somewhat challenging for me, but as I said before, John is very patient. I find Otis to be much more responsive to commands and our walks together are much easier for both of us. Otis is a "happy dog," but now he is a better trained "happy dog." I highly recommend Happy Dogs Boarding and Training. I think you will not be disappointed. John, many thanks to you and your staff.
