If you’re looking for a quality trainer and company — I would HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere and never ever go to Highland Canine. Run far away. If you love your dog, find another training company/trainer. Stay FARRRR AWAY FROM HIGHLAND CANINE. You and your dog will thank me. I had my 8 month old dog in their off-leash/advanced 21 day program. I received POOR communication during her time with the Tampa trainer. The trainer and I discussed in detail about her leash reactivity when dogs are around, her resource guarding traits, counter surfing, barking and jumping on people. I emphasized the importance of correcting those behaviors. I was assured that was going to be a simple feat along with training off leash—solid recall, down stays/sits, and following commands. Hurricane Idalia was projected to hit our area on Tuesday. I had to reach out to the trainer-Brittany on Sunday to inquire about protocol. Didn’t get a response until 13 hours later on Monday 10:13am. Due to Idalia she had completed 18 of her 21 days of the off leash training. (3 days remaining) of her training. While Brittany had my dog beginning 8/11, she only communicated with me on 8/13, 8/14, 8/18, 8/23, and 8/27. I picked her up on 8/28. 90% of those communications were initiated by me asking about my dog. No videos showing progress or trainings were received. They were mostly videos of Lexi playing/running around in her yard with other dogs. While Brittany showed us the training demo at pick up, my dog was jumping on me and my mom- we were told to turn our backs to her. I was also shown her down stay. Within that down stay, I walked behind a bush out of visibility and my dog broke the down/stay immediately. I was instructed to bring her back to the spot and put her back in the down stay, but this time we would “walk as far away.” Which is totally not the purpose of a down stay. It should be solid enough for it not to be broken until released. I can’t have a dog off-leash trained but have to fear she will break a command or take off. Especially when she’s breaking it while at Brittany’s house on our departure on day 18. My dog has skin sensitivity to regular leads on e-collars. I expressed this at drop off when I brought my remote, collar, and charger. I was told to take it home because Brittany was more comfortable with her remote and where the buttons were. I asked about her having titanium leads to change out to and she said she’d keep an eye on it and “let me know if she needs to switch them.” My dog came home with a red inflamed neck, but also Brittany let me know she was “nick-ing” my dog at a 20, TWENTY, on her remote. I use a 6-8 at my house. My dog now has an aversion where she cowards down when she sees us go to use the ecollar. Which she never had that aversion to it ever before. After 8 emails to the owner, Erin, her husband & president, Jason, as well as the trainer Brittany requesting a call to discuss in details the lack of training and regression of my dog now who is now snipping at me and running out the door to dogs. I never received a single phone call only 2 emails from Jason asking for clarity on videos I sent. And the last email stating, “We are not in a position to give a refund and to suggest that we pay another company to finish the training is absurd.” I would NEVER SUGGEST anyone to send their beloved dog to this company. Your dog will be far worse and the owner and president won’t reach out to resolve any matter arising from the lack of professionalism and integrity in regard to the training (or lack thereof) that happens to your dog while in their care. I’ve requested the contract they had me sign at drop off THREE times and have yet to receive it. the trainers mother even tried to get involved by stating I was leaving out details, but I have all texts, communications photos/videos time stamped. So no details are left out on my behalf. I have proof beyond proof of everything stated.

I adopted a pit bull from statesville animal shelter yesterday who had been there for 98 days. Due to the training he has received from highland k9 the transition has been virtually seamless. There knowledge to be able to get dogs to obey when only working with them one day a week. By partnering with the animal shelter I left feeling like they can make any dog adaptable with the right training and dedication. Magdalena and all the staff who have worked with Duke did an amazing job. Also Matt who I’ve been working closely with is a wealth of knowledge and greatly improved my dog knowledge.
