Joe is truly an expert when it comes to dog training. This is far more than just teaching commands. He educates you on your how your dogs brain works and how to maximize their potential.
We started with a 4 week board and train for our then 1.5 year-old female Belgian Malinois, Juno. Walking her was a nightmare as she would drag us, and jump or bark at anything that moved. At home she began to get nervous around guests, and we were struggling with obedience.
When she came back from her 4 weeks, Juno had already transformed. She had gained confidence, focus, and the ability to follow commands and adapt to situations.
This is where OUR training began! Joe gave us a great understanding of how to continue to recreate and continue to develop our relationship with Juno by explaining her genetic predispositions, what her thoughts are when she exhibits certain behaviors and how to develop respect and a relationship with her. I truly feel that our success has come from understanding how to communicate clearly and directly with her.
Her reactivity has significantly decreased and she is now able to go on walks with us without anxiety and barking at anything that moves. If she does lose focus, it is very easy for us to get her to reconnect. She is so confident with her commands she can now do them out in public and enjoys showing off for friends and family.
We aren’t done yet! We look forward to continuing working with Joe to advance Juno to the next level!

Our Pomeranian, Teddy, had some serious problems with fundamental obedience and we, as his dog parents, were admittedly giving into all his demands. Enter Joe and Hodge Canine. After our 4 week board and train program, Teddy made leaps and bounds and actually LISTENS to us! My biggest worry was that Teddy would lose some of his personality, but his improved behavior only made Teddy more sweet and lovable. Most importantly, Joe took the time to train us humans during our 4 transfer lessons. We learned that we were a huge part of the problem, but Joe made it easy to correct our behaviors for Teddy’s benefit. Can’t thank Joe, Emily, and the whole Hodge Canine family enough!!
