Island Dog Training

Our dog, Zucker, is a shy rescue that's very intelligent and stubborn. Island Dog training's Family Manners class taught both of us how to communicate better, how clicker training works, and the basic commands. They also helped me better understand how to get Zucker more accustomed to new people, and how to walk on a leash without pulling. Their training techniques are kind, set up for success, and effective. Thank you!!

I have had an incredible training experience training my puppy at Island Dog, Margie brings her vast experience with handling dogs of different breeds and temperament and presents easy to follow methods which work! My dog and I have taken a variety of classes: puppy class, family manners, foundations and playground. Margie truly cares about the dog AND the dog parent and works diligently to make sure each class meets the needs of those who are attending. The positive reinforcement methods taught result in a happy dog and happy dog parent!

Would not recommend, training supplied was completely ineffective after weeks of consistent use. Was instructed to turn my back and let the dog (a young Giant German Shepard) just continue to jump on me, in spite of the fact I am disabled with a damaged spine and could easily be knocked down. Then was scolded for body-blocking when the dog went to jump again, so I was not permitted to protect myself. The dog did the same to my sister after her following the same instructions, and the dog proceeded to bite her in the arm. We were told it could take up to 2 years of training to curb this behavior, and were told if we used any form of adverse training in or out of class,we would be dismissed from further classes. We ended up terminating the classes anyway as the methods of a professional retired military dog trainer are available for free on YouTube. These methods provide fast results and consistent training that balances both traditional adverse and positive reinforcement with military precision training, which is exponentially more effective than the joke training we were instructed with from here. Had I known what this place was like before going, I never would have gone to begin with.
