Janice Z Dog Training

Janice Z is an incredible trainer and we feel so lucky to have found her! After working with private/group training outfits in the area for 6 months, we were feeling overwhelmed that our 1 year old lab mix was having trouble outgrowing puppy behaviors that would only get harder with our growing family. We had an initial consultation where Janice helped us determine what skills we wanted for our dog (crate training, recall, drop, leave it, loose leash walking, overcoming fears of city traffic where we live, and getting ready for life with a newborn). Janice provided insights immediately during the consult, and over 6 weeks she systematically helped us build up each skill. Janice breaks down each skill into a series of steps. Each week she assigns a few steps as homework, progressively reinforcing the skill each day. If we got stumped, Janice was available by email to brainstorm or make modifications and iterate to see what worked. If you work with Janice, I am sure you'll see how sharp and dedicated she is. If anything, you should definitely take her recall training course --it was incredible that in 6 weeks we went from having a dog that "ignored us" to someone that will come racing with glee back to us even while wrestling at the dog park. Over 6 weeks, we had 2 in-person sessions with others over Zoom. We were initially worried the Zoom experience might feel limiting, but Janice has it set up incredibly well. We worked on skills with our dogs in our respective living rooms, and it meant that we could really focus on how we were training our dog instead of the dog being distracted by the novelty of a trainer. The online sessions meant we could fit training classes into our schedules really easily and have more ownership of learning how we train not just watching demonstrations. Then we also meant in person to work on some home skills and loose leash walking which was a good complement. Janice is wonderful and I'm sure we'll continue to work with her as we build new skills and continue to nurture our sweet little lab.

I have a six month old puppy and we have struggled with potty training for months. We were doing great at night, but having lots of accidents during the day. I am brand new to dogs having not only never had them before, but never even being around them! I hired multiple trainers before meeting Janice, and while we definitely benefited from those trainers as well, we still struggled with our number one issue of potty training. This was causing lots of stress in my household. Janice provided me detailed step by step instructions and advice in a way that was exactly what we needed. We have been following her instructions with tremendous success! Not only has our puppy been doing great, but we finally feel like we know what we’re doing. I will absolutely go back to Janice for any additional training needs in the future!
