John K9 Dog Training, Boarding, and Daycare

I have waited about a month to make this review just to see if what we paid for was worth it. In full transparency once we got home, we thought we wasted a ton of money and the training didn’t work, but you only feel like that if YOU as the parent don’t put in the work. All of that to say, we are extremely satisfied with JohnK9. Our Rocky was adopted back in April and we noticed some tendencies that we wanted to correct and this training did exactly that. We got constant updates on her and they didn’t make us feel like we were being a bother if we asked for extra updates, or called with questions and concerns regarding her stay there. When we called for a tour, they were technically closed, we asked Savannah if there was anyway we could come in due to our schedules and she allowed it with no problem. We then met John, at first my husband and I didn’t even realize he was the owner, he jumped right in with what we where going to expect out of this training and everything out of his mouth was 100% true, he was real from the beginning. He stands behind what he says because he knows it works. Lily was Rocky’s main trainer (all of the trainers are phenomenal who work HARD day in and day out loving on our pup.) but Lily was just as phenomenal and knowledgeable on Rocky and her quirks during our exit session. Lily took the time to explain and correct us so Rocky could be successful when we went home. My husband dropped her off today and she had a bit of trouble but he said when Lily came out, she was super excited and didn’t even care about her being left there! Please ignore all of the negative reviews on here, this was NOT the experience we have had. I wish i could give more stars.

Maui was a rescue and come to us with many issues. Maui was not trained to do anything but sleep. He was a 10 out of 10 with that. We had 0 experience training a dog and knew YouTube was not going to help us. Plus, YouTube can not correct you if you are training your dog incorrectly. Maui would not follow simple commands and had some behavioral issues. Additionally, he would also bark at other people and try to play (somewhat aggressively) with other dogs. He did not know how to control his playfulness. To other dogs it looked more like aggression. I researched and reached out to several dog training companies/individuals in the area. They said that they could not help us out at that moment or did not feel comfortable training Maui. I also reached out to John K9 Dog Training. They are located about an hour from us but worth the drive. I would not let the potential drive time deter you. I talked to John and explained the issues Maui had. We set up a date for an evaluation. At the evaluation, John was able to observe some of Maui's behaviors. John provided the information about their 3 training courses and rates. Before we talked to John we expected to put Maui in the 3--4 week in-resident training course. After we talked to John we decided that the weekly training plan was best for us and Maui. The weekly training would require me to be active in his training. We would learn how to train Maui and be corrected on anything that he/we might be doing wrong. Maui loved getting out of the house and interacting with others and other dogs. Additionally, you get lifetime assistance if needed. Savannah, with John K9 is amazing. I would call her a Customer Service Rep but not sure what her real title is. Sorry Savannah. She was the one who sent the training agreement to us. Savannah also answered all our emails/questions, set up training dates, and times. They are very flexibility on dates and times. John K9 keep us with the same trainer during the entire course. We got paired with Carlos who was very educated in training techniques and passionate about his responsibility as a trainer. Carlos, would identify why Maui would not follow a certain command, and how to adjust training techniques if needed. Training sessions are easy but require you to actively use the techniques throughout the week. Carlos was very professional and educated me on what if scenarios. During an off site training session at Lowes Carlos quickly identified a potential problem. He told me what to do and how to react. I don't know how Carlos did it but he was right. The potential problem became a real problem. Some other customers decided that they would allow their "2 well trained dogs" to walk around Lowes without a leash. The dogs owners was checking out and the dogs decided to come our way. We happened to be about 100 feet away down the lumber row. Carlos quickly saw the dogs movement and started to go through what he just taught me. I will keep his process a secret. One of the dogs came towards Maui and another one went towards the dog Carlos had with him for training. Maui took a protective stance behind me and in front of his mother. I did what Carlos told me to do and Maui actively protected his mother. Luckily, we kept the other dogs away until their slow walking, careless, and unapologetic owners got them. I don't know how he did it but Carlos knew something was going to happen. I was impressed with what Carlos said and did. The dogs we had did not get hurt and I learned what to do in the future. Thank you for everything Carlos. You ROCK! The change in Maui after the training is amazing. I never thought that I could take him out and about. Now he is my partner when I do a Lowes run. Thanks to the John K9 Dog Training team. I really do appreciate everything.
