What is the average length of stay for your Board & Train program?
The average is approximately 2.5 to 3 weeks. Most dogs require more time because by the time the dog owner is calling us, the behaviors have usually gotten pretty bad. We aim to reassure our clients that we provide regular video progress updates as their dog advances through our program.

Do your board & train programs include follow-up lessons?
Yes! There are a total of 4 follow-up lessons included with our program. The first one is completed when you pick up your dog. The remaining 3 must be completed within 2 weeks of picking up your dog. Each session is approximately 20 to 30 minutes but also varies according to the questions being asked.

Every dog is unique and a number of factors would have to be considered including history, temperament, drives, reactivity, who the handlers are, and what the dogs are being trained for, to name a few considerations.

We offer board and training with four follow-up lessons at our facility. We also offer certain specialized private lessons at our facility for those competing in the sport of Schutzhund.
We occasionally offer in-home training for our existing clients who have already completed one of our board & train programs but require additional specialized assistance for their pets that we are already familiar with.

First of all, we did our research regarding trainers, their reputations, experience and the types of dogs they are more known for training. Considering ours is a Long Hair German Shepherd, John’s name often came up.
After making an appointment to meet with John, we brought Stella to his northern facility for an evaluation. (By the way, this facility is clearly often used, but is incredibly clean. There are many trophies and banners throughout and none of these were brought to our attention by John - humility) John is a man of few words, but when he speaks, it’s worth listening. We walked Stella around while John watched intently. He then gave us his evaluation of Stella, and it was perfectly on point.
We explained our concerns and expectations and scheduled her training. We arrived at the south Jersey training center and it is as well kept as the first. We handed Stella over to a staff member with total confidence. We knew it would be difficult to be without her for 4+ weeks, but John promised he would periodically send videos of her progress. Watching these videos made the separation easier and reassuring that our dog was in the proper hands.
When we finally got the word we could come pick up Stella, we could hardly wait. It was then we had the first of four one on one lessons with John where we were trained. The instructions and commands used are clear and concise. The transformation was incredible. Once home, as we walked her around the neighborhood, residents in the area were amazed at how well behaved Stella was. My initially reluctant wife soon came to realize it was the right thing to do for us…and Stella. We are seriously considering more advanced training in the future.
A few points to keep in mind:
1) This is a no nonsense training program with no nonsense methods. John, his assistant Kimiko, and the entire staff give you their undivided attention.
2) John is internationally known for his abilities, but is a humble individual. Do your own research on this.
3) This is not some program run by someone who just read a few books and watched a few videos. It is highly professional. Rest assured, whatever you pay here is well worth it. Remember, it’s an investment that will last the life of your dog, but you have to invest the time to strengthen and reinforce the lessons taught.

After 4 weeks with John and his staff, my Doberman was still playful and energetic with alot more discipline. The 4 training sessions after her initial training was more for me than her. I learned how to be more dominant with training her. I would recommend John and his staff to anyone. Not cheap, but not expensive either. Remember, you get what you pay for, and this was a great investment. I will be using John in the future.

Not only is John an expert in understanding how this breed thinks but he took the time to get to know my dog’s specific temperament and personality. The 4-week board and train program was definitely worth it because he helped me get to a better place with my pet by teaching me about the importance of tone of voice when giving a command, leash pressure, and timing of corrections. I feel more confident and in control as a handler. The follow up sessions were key to better understanding how to manage his dog reactivity. Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it!
